YouTube Music shows that Apple Watch is more important to Google than Wear OS

Google announced the launch of the YouTube Music app for Apple Watch. This means that the music streaming service that Play Music users are forced to switch to will debut on Apple’s smartwatch platform earlier than its own Wear OS.

YouTube Music for Apple Watch includes direct watch face integration. In the application itself, users can listen to music and view a list of available tracks. They have all the usual functions and playback controls at their disposal, including the ability to “like” songs they like and stream music. The latter feature is only available with a Premium subscription and works on Apple Watch Series 3 and newer smartwatches running watchOS 6 and above.

 

The final transition from Play Music to YouTube Music is expected this month. The corresponding section in the Google Play store is no longer functional, and Google advises to transfer the library to YouTube Music. Moreover, until recently, the company did not offer users a native tool for these purposes. All this suggests that Google cares more about the Apple audience, and it is more important for them that the YouTube Music application works on the Apple Watch than on its own platform for wearable devices.

As for YouTube Music on Wear OS, the search giant does not promise anything concrete, only advises you to stay tuned.
