After the release of the iPhone 14 series smartphones, enthusiasts began to test the car accident detection function, which is the main innovation of the standard model. There is also support for communication satellites, but it only works in the US and Canada.
According to Apple, this feature can determine if a user has been in a car accident. If after a collision the user does not respond within 20 seconds, the smartphone will automatically make an emergency call.
However, some users have found in tests that the iPhone 14 does not activate the car accident detection function in all cases, even after a collision. Apple has already commented on the situation.
Cupertino said that for this feature to work, you must meet the minimum requirements: the iPhone must be connected to Bluetooth or CarPlay. Moreover, the car must drive a certain distance: if the GPS in the smartphone shows that the car was moving along the highway, then the probability of the function being triggered will be higher.
Apple is not responsible for the operation of this feature, stating that it “may not be able to detect all vehicle crashes.”
Vegan leather, Parisian nails and BMW colors. iQOO 11 posing in high quality images
The iQOO 11 smartphone will be presented tomorrow, but now we have the opportunity to look at high-quality images in different versions.
The Legend version is made for BMW fans. And in this case, three branded stripes are engraved with the Clous de Paris pattern, also known as “Paris nails”. It is usually found on expensive mechanical watches and consists of small pyramid-like squares.
The base of the body is fiberglass. It is covered in what the manufacturers call vegan leather. The manufacturer also coated the material with some kind of dirt-repellent coating.
The Alpha version is more traditional. Here you can see the usual black color, and the back cover is made of glass. True, there is some engraving on it, which makes the glass rough.
According to early reports, iQOO 11 will feature Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC, Samsung E6 144Hz screen, 50MP camera and 120W charger.
The Chinese are preparing their own fleet to deliver cars around the world
According to Bloomberg, China’s two largest automakers are keen to establish a stable supply of their cars around the world, for which they decided to buy their own cargo ships.
BYD ordered at least six ships in October, each carrying 7,700 vehicles, for $710 million. The state company SAIC Motor has announced a tender for seven new vessels, each of which can accommodate 8,900 vehicles.
China recently overtook Germany to become the world’s second largest car exporter, shipping nearly 2.6 million vehicles overseas in the first 10 months of 2022, surpassing 2021 volumes. Even the unexpected drop in demand for Chinese goods in October didn’t stop the trend, with car exports up 60% year-over-year to 352,000 units over the period. As a result, the turnover amounted to a record 7.1 billion dollars.
China exported more than 852,000 electric vehicles in the first 10 months of this year, up from almost zero a few years ago. More than a fifth came from Tesla electric vehicles produced at a gigafactory in Shanghai.
The shortage of ships is further stretching the car supply chain. Daily rates for ships that can carry up to 6,500 vehicles have risen to about $100,000 per day as of October, more than ten times the 2020 level and the highest on record (from 2000 to according to Clarksons).
Under such conditions, some ships that are nearly 30 years old are still in service rather than being retired, increasing the risk of accidents.
Avtotor showed an electric car of its own design. Yantar production may start in 2023
After BMW and Hyundai-Kia ceased cooperation with Avtotor, the company began negotiations with three other partners, one of which is the Chinese BAIC. However, Avtotor is also working on its own projects, one of which is shown in the pictures below.
This is a promising compact electric car, which is still called Yantar. The car is designed for a youth audience. The Yantar body panels are planned to be made of polycarbonate and polypropylene, and the weight of the steel body frame will be 106 kg.
Like Chinese ultra-compact electric vehicles like the Wuling Hongguang Mini EV, Geely Geometry M2 and Chery QQ Ice Cream, Yantar is designed for four, but has only three doors. One of the pictures suggests that the traction battery will be placed in the base, which will provide a low level of gravity, as well as a positive effect on handling and stability.
The slides say that the most expensive components of Yantar are the traction battery (it will account for 37% of the cost) and the body (21%). What engine will be used in the car is not reported, but Chinese counterparts use motors with a capacity of 30-40 hp. And they allow a car of this size to accelerate to 100 km / h.
How much “Yantar” will cost is not reported. Its production at Avtotor may begin as early as next year.
