Xiaomi will follow the lead of Samsung, Huawei and Apple this year and launch its own mobile platforms

According to the latest reports from Taiwan, smartphone makers Xiaomi and Oppo are working on their own 5G-enabled SoCs due to be released by the end of 2021. Unisoc, a Shanghai-based chipset company, is also working on SoCs to support next-generation networks.

After the United States banned Huawei from purchasing American components and equipment that used American technology, many Chinese companies, including Xiaomi and Oppo, decided to establish their own production of the necessary components in order to reduce their dependence on the United States.

In 2017, Xiaomi had an eight-core Xiaomi Surge S1 single-chip system, which had four Cortex-A53 cores clocked at 2.2 GHz and four Cortex-A53 cores clocked at 1.4 GHz. It was manufactured using the 28nm HPC + process technology and used an ARM Mali-T860 as the GPU. The only Surge S1-based smartphone in the world is the Xiaomi Mi 5C.

The Surge C1 imaging processor was recently unveiled and will debut in the manufacturer’s first foldable smartphone, the Xiaomi Mix Fold.

This year Xiaomi will follow the lead of Samsung, Huawei and Apple and launch its own mobile platforms.
