Xiaomi intends to become one of the leading automotive manufacturers in China. And therefore there is actively developing its own autopilot system for cars. Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun said that the company is preparing the Xiaomi Pilot Technology system.

The company has hired more than 500 professionals to form a research and development team. By the end of the year, the number of specialists will increase to 600.

In addition, Xiaomi has already boasted about the capabilities of the new system and showed a prototype in action in a short video. Separately, it is noted that the autopilot technology required for Xiaomi’s autonomous electric vehicle will be fully developed without the participation of third parties and in record time.

Previously, Xiaomi acquired the assets of Shendong Technology, which is engaged in auto-driving systems for unmanned vehicles. At the same time, the authorized capital of the new Xiaomi Auto company amounted to 1.5 billion dollars, the volume of investments in the next 10 years will reach 10 billion dollars.

In addition to automatic driving, the new Xiaomi Pilot Technology system will provide self-parking, automatic battery charging and many other innovative services. At the moment, the company has 140 vehicles on which various aspects of the system are being tested.

The finished solution should appear in 2024.

Chinese startup China Car Custom has unveiled the SC-01 (Sport Car 01) electric sports car. Deliveries of the car will begin in the fourth quarter of 2023, but the price is already known: it is 300,000 yuan, or about $42,000.

The design of the electric car is interesting. If the model received an original look from the front, then in profile the SC-01 has direct intersections with the first Tesla Roadster. But the view from the stern is even more interesting, as the features of the Lancia New Stratos are guessed in it. Dimensions: 4085 x 1820 x 1162 mm. Wheelbase – 2500 mm, weight – 1300 kg. There are no interior pictures yet.

SC-01 is an all-wheel drive car: there are two electric motors with a total power of 435 hp. Up to 100 km / h, the car accelerates in 3.9 seconds. The maximum speed and battery capacity have not yet been disclosed, but the cruising range is known – up to about 500 km on a single charge.

China Car Custom was founded in 2014 and has been tuning various models like the Porsche 911 and Mitsubishi 3000GT until now. The manufacturer has already filed a corresponding patent application with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO). The description of the patent says that a special controller will monitor indicators such as steering angle and wheel speed, thereby determining the need to reduce the turning radius. Ford calls this feature “turn assist mode.”

When this mode is activated, the system reduces the torque transmitted to the rear inner wheel and sends more torque to both front wheels. Torque reduction for the rear wheels can be achieved by braking, and therefore the system can be used, including for front-wheel drive vehicles.

It is not yet known when such a system will be implemented in Ford production vehicles. It is quite possible that the development will not reach the stage of commercialization.

According to sources, Ford had to delay deliveries of some car models because the company did not have enough of its logos and model nameplates. The shortage affected some important models for the American manufacturer, including F-series pickups.

Ford management looked for alternative solutions, but finding them turned out to be more difficult than one might think at first. In particular, the manufacturer tested 3D-printed logos as a temporary solution, but in the end, the company abandoned this idea, since such nameplates turned out to be of poor quality.

Tribar Technologies, which supplies exterior trim to Ford and many other manufacturers, was reportedly forced to halt production in August after dumping industrial chemicals into the local sewer system. According to the source, the release did not cause significant harm to the environment and at the moment Tribar is operating at full capacity. However, the suspension of production may well have been the cause of the shortage faced by Ford.

The other day, Ford said that by the end of the quarter, the company will have between 40,000 and 45,000 new vehicles in stock that cannot be shipped to dealers due to a shortage of parts. In addition to the shortage of nameplates, the manufacturer is in dire need of chips and other important components. According to analysts, supply problems may persist until 2024.
