As smartphone manufacturers have extended the support timeframe for their smartphones to 3 years or more, it makes less sense to install custom firmware. However, a large community of developers and enthusiasts continues to develop: the former create unique firmware for new smartphones, and the latter are happy to test them.
Every Android smartphone manufacturer is obliged to release kernel sources for every device. Previously, Xiaomi was in no hurry, but over the past couple of years the situation has changed: the company began to release source codes almost immediately after the announcement of new smartphones or shortly after their release.
You can download the Android 12 kernel source code from the official Xiaomi GitHub page in the zeus-s-oss and psyche-r-oss repositories for Xiaomi 12/12 Pro and Xiaomi 12X respectively.
