New details about the Xiaomi 12 Ultra smartphone have appeared on the Web. This time, a Chinese insider says that the device will be released only in the second half of the year and will be built on TSMC’s Snapdragon 8 SoC.

Xiaomi 12 Ultra will be released in the second half of the year and will cost around 1000 euros. New details about the promising Xiaomi flagship

The platform in question is the successor to the current Snapdragon 8 Gen 1. Different sources call it Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 Plus and Snapdragon 8 Gen 2. Be that as it may, this SoC will indeed be used in the flagships of the second half of 2022. In this regard, the release date of Xiaomi 12 Ultra (it can also be called Xiaomi 12U) and Qualcomm’s production plans coincide.

The insider is not one hundred percent sure that Xiaomi 12 Ultra will receive a periscope camera with 5x optical zoom, but before that, various sources actively attributed such a module to the future Xiaomi flagship. Finally, the price. An insider says that the cost of Xiaomi 12 Ultra will be 6,000 yuan, which is approximately $ 945. This means that in Europe the basic version of Xiaomi 12 Ultra will cost about 1000 euros.

At the moment this is just a rumor, but if it turns out to be true, then the wait for Xiaomi 12 Ultra is still a long time. If Xiaomi 12 Pro, like its predecessor, does not go on sale outside of China, then Xiaomi 12 will not be able to stand alone against the flagships of other companies, especially the Samsung Galaxy S22 line.

Xiaomi is preparing a competitor to the Samsung Galaxy Z

Xiaomi is apparently working on a foldable smartphone that resembles the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3 in design. The corresponding patent was posted on the website of the China National Intellectual Property Administration (CNIPA). The patent application includes sketches of the device both open and closed. Judging by these images, when folded, the smartphone will be very compact.

The sketches also show a horizontal camera module (reminiscent of the Google Pixel 6 camera) with three holes for sensors. However, one of them may well be designed for LED flash. The speaker holes, the SIM card slot and the USB Type C connector are located on the bottom end, and the power button and volume control are visible on the right side. According to the sketches, it is not clear what the front camera of the new Xiaomi clamshell will be. Perhaps the company will decide to use camera technology under the display (Camera Under Panel, CUP), like Xiaomi MIX Fold.

Will PlayStation have fewer exclusives? Sony plans to release half of its PlayStation Studios games on PC and smartphones

Will PlayStation have fewer exclusives Sony plans to release half

Sony has outlined its immediate plans for the game for PC and mobile platforms.

Will PlayStation have fewer exclusives? Sony plans to release half of its PlayStation Studios games on PC and smartphones

CEO Jim Ryan said that Sony plans to have half of the games created by its internal studios in fiscal year 2025, including on PC and smartphones.

That is, only 50% of the games will remain exclusive, while the rest will be available to a much larger number of gamers. This is similar to Phil Spencer’s position on the Xbox.

From the chart, you can see that the share of PCs will still be higher than the share of smartphones, which should please gamers who prefer large single-player games. The share of Sony games on smartphones is now about 10%, and in three years it should double. In the case of the PC, there is no exact data, but the share of such projects will not grow so significantly.

Will PlayStation have fewer exclusives? Sony plans to release half of its PlayStation Studios games on PC and smartphones

Most likely, the big story games for the most part, as now, will be released only on the PlayStation, and will migrate to the PC years later. What kind of games will be released on PC and smartphones? Judging by Ryan’s statement, including game-services. It turns out that Sony is now working on 12 such projects at once. According to the head of PlayStation, if at least some of these projects become successful, it will greatly transform the company’s business structure.

Historically, PlayStation Studios has done an excellent job of building a vast portfolio of single-player games with rich storytelling and beautiful graphics, but we’ve certainly limited ourselves to a fairly narrow section of the gaming market.

By expanding into PCs and mobile devices, and, it must be said, into online services, we have the opportunity to move from a very narrow segment of the overall gaming software market to a presence almost everywhere.

For example, I would say that if we manage to make some of the 12 service games that we develop at PlayStation Studios… if only some of them are commercially successful, then the impact of this will completely transform our business structure over time.

Given the success of Sony games on PC, it’s no surprise that the share of such games will continue to grow. As for the mobile segment, it has long occupied more than half of the entire gaming industry in terms of money. By the way, we recall that the first of the PlayStation 5 exclusives may soon be released on the PC.

The new version costs $ 160, of course, in many respects inferior to the older one, but not in everything. For example, the same battery with a capacity of 5000 mAh is installed here, only the older version has a 10-watt charge, while the younger one has a very decent 33-watt charge for this segment.

In almost all other respects, smartphones are identical, except that the new version has a screen with support for only 60 Hz. At the same time, this is the same IPS panel with a diagonal of 6.56 inches with HD + resolution.

The smartphone has the same 13 MP camera, the same design, the same Android 12 out of the box. Another difference is that the $235 A57 5G offers 8GB of RAM and 128GB of flash, while the A57 4G only has 3GB of RAM and 64GB of flash.
