Huami, known for smartwatches Amazfit, held a press conference called Future of Tech, where it announced a new SoC for wearable devices, an operating system and other developments.
In particular, the company decided to expand its scope of activities by announcing the world’s first portable magnetic resonance imaging scanner. Typically, an MRI scanner is a large diagnostic machine that takes up an entire room and cannot be moved.
Huami says this will soon change as its MRI scanner will be quite compact and portable. According to the manufacturer, the scanner is 1.5 meters high and covers an area of less than 2 meters2 and weighs less than 800 kg. According to the source, conventional hospital MRI scanners weigh about 6.8 tons, and heavier models weigh up to 37 tons. They take up to 35 m2 and have a height of 2.5 meters.
Huami says its MRI scanner does not require a specially shielded room, which reduces installation costs. At the same time, the Huami MRI scanner has an average power consumption of 1 kWh compared to existing scanners that consume between 50 and 120 kWh. The new MRI scanner also boasts high image quality.
It is expected to be significantly cheaper than existing models on the market.
