Samsung Electronics CEO Dong-jin Koh at a regular meeting of shareholders clarified why the South Korean tech giant will not release a new Galaxy Note smartphone this year.
He told investors that the company is abandoning the idea of launching a new Galaxy Note in 2021 due to a “serious imbalance” in the semiconductor industry around the world. The demand for SoCs and other chips is far outstripping supply, so Samsung has to adjust its plans. Simply put, the new Samsung Galaxy Note simply lacks single-chip systems, given that Samsung recently launched its flagship Galaxy S21 lineup and is now preparing to unveil the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold3 and Galaxy Z Flip2, details of which emerged this morning.
Dong Jin Ko added that next year, when the global shortage in the semiconductor industry ends, the Samsung Galaxy Note lineup should return to normal, meaning that the new model should be released around the summer of next year.
Samsung is one of the largest chip makers in the world, and the company has faced production delays as its Austin plant has yet to resume production due to the extreme cold.
Analysts believe that the lack of new Galaxy Note smartphones in Samsung’s lineup this year will reduce the company’s shipments by about 5%, but lead to a larger decline in revenue, as these are some of Samsung’s most expensive smartphones.
Overclocked to 6.2 GHz, the Intel Core i9-13900K processor was 60% faster than the current flagship AMD Ryzen 5950X
The 13th generation Intel Core processors (Raptor Lake) continue to amaze with their overclocking capabilities and, as a result, performance. Another experiment was set up on an engineering sample of the Core i9-13900KF, whose high-performance cores were overclocked to a frequency of 6.2 GHz. The frequency of 5.2 GHz was also the most energy efficient.
In Cinebench R23, this CPU scored 42,790 in the multi-threaded test and 2263 in the single-threaded test – a very good result, especially considering that the tested CPU with lower frequencies – 5.8 GHz (high-performance cores) and 4.7 GHz (energy efficient) . With such overclocking, the Core i9-13900KF turned out to be noticeably faster than both the Core i9-12900K and even more so the Ryzen 9 5950X in a single-threaded test, and in a multi-threaded performance difference is about 50% in favor of the new Intel CPU.
In addition to Cinebench, the overclocked Core i9-13900KF was also tested in CPU-Z. In this test, it outperformed the Ryzen 9 5950X by about 60% in both single and multi-threaded tests. The superiority over the Core i9-12900K in the multi-threaded test is 70%, in the single-threaded test it is already 20%.
The results of testing the mysterious Intel A580 graphics card in the Ashes of Singularity gaming benchmark appeared – at the level of RTX 3060
The entry-level A380 graphics cards have already entered the market, and the A750, A770 and A780 are expected to appear in the near future. However, so far there has been very little information about middle management solutions. And now, in the database of the gaming benchmark from Ashes of Singularity, references to the A580 model appeared.
The GPU was tested at 1080p, where it scored 9300 points and about 95 FPS. At the same time, testing was carried out using the Vulkan graphical interface, and not DirectX12. For comparison, the RTX 3060 graphics card produces 75-96 FPS at similar settings on Vulkan.
Of course, you can’t rate the card on only one result, since the characteristics of the test platform, driver version and other indicators are unknown. However, the available data look encouraging.
At the same time, Intel itself announced another card as a competitor to the RTX 3060 – the potentially more powerful A750. It remains to wait for their release in order to compare solutions directly.
Earlier it was reported that the A380 cards have already reached the United States.
“The sale of SIM cards is really becoming more expensive and meaningless,” MTS will reduce sales of SIM cards and the number of communication stores
MTS President Vyacheslav Nikolaev said that the company plans to move towards reducing sales of SIM-cards, as well as reducing their points of sale.
It seems to me that now, when the cost of SIM cards has increased by an order of magnitude, it’s time to heal this market. Therefore, from the point of view of sales of SIM cards, it seems to me that the sales volume can now be reduced, especially since for us, ecosystem effects provide very serious advantages in reducing the outflow – this also allows us to take sales more calmly.
Nikolaev noted that an increasing number of customers are also moving online, which also allows, in terms of telecom, to reduce the number of their own points of sale.
From the point of view of telecom, it seems to me that this is a very timely issue, and perhaps the right actions will be taken by the entire market. At least we will go in this direction. We hope that colleagues will not be far behind, because selling SIM cards is indeed becoming more expensive and pointless.
As we have already reported, MTS may sell its tower business.
