“Why did we introduce it today? Because the market demands it”: Chinese response to ChatGPT announced

As expected, the Chinese company Baidu today, March 16, introduced its chat bot based on artificial intelligence – Ernie Bot. However, the creators of the Chinese analogue of ChatGPT disappointed investors: instead of a live demonstration, a number of previously recorded videos were shown, in addition, developers are not going to open access to Ernie Bot to everyone. As a result, right during the presentation, which lasted just over an hour, Baidu’s shares on the Hong Kong stock exchange fell by as much as 10%, although then they rose slightly in price, as a result, the fall was 6.4%.

In the videos shown by the company during the presentation, Ernie Bot performed mathematical calculations, spoke in Chinese dialects, and also generated videos and images with text prompts. At the moment, the trial version of the chatbot is available to a limited group of users with invitation codes, and companies can already apply for its implementation in their products. At the same time, nothing is reported about when public access to Ernie Bot will be opened.

Baidu CEO Robin Li (Robin Li) immediately warned that while the platform is not perfect, but it was introduced right now, because it is “demanded by the market.” Baidu plans to use Ernie Bot to massively improve its search engine and improve the efficiency of cloud computing, it is also expected to find its way into smart cars and home appliances. To date, 650 companies have said they will join the Ernie ecosystem, the company said.

SpaceX will deliberately destroy some of its latest Stalink V2

At the end of February, SpaceX launched 21 Starlink V2 Mini satellites into space – the new generation vehicles are smaller than their predecessors and, thanks to new data transmission technologies and improved antennas, provide significantly more bandwidth – 4 times more than the first generation Starlink. However, as it turned out, not everything is going smoothly with them: a short time after the launch, independent observers noted the unusual behavior of a number of these satellites – they moved along a strange trajectory.

This is what Starlink V2 Mini looks like

Jonathan McDowell, a well-known astronomer and creator of the planet4589.org website, which collects all the statistics on Starlink satellites, spoke on this topic. “I think the height changes are significant. I think they are solving some problem with the new satellites and in a few weeks we will see if they resume the ascent into orbit“, he wrote on Twitter. Elon Musk answered him:There are a lot of new technologies in Starlink V2, so as expected, we had some issues. Some satellites will be de-orbited, others will be thoroughly tested before they rise to a height above the space station.“.

It turns out that for some of those 21 satellites there is no longer any salvation, SpaceX will destroy them by re-entering the earth’s atmosphere.

Microsoft bans companies from training AI bots using Bing without

Microsoft developers are ready to restrict access to Bing search results for some companies that have used it to train AI bots without the permission of the corporation. They said that if the search is used in this capacity, access will be blocked.

The company believes that using search to train chatbots violates the agreement and reserves the right to terminate unilaterally. There have been no legal comments on this topic yet, but Microsoft itself has stated that there is communication with partners.

Currently, Bing search results can be used by DuckDuckGo, Yahoo, and You.com search engines. In doing so, the first system combines data from Bing and its own algorithms. And You.com and Neeva use the Microsoft system to save resources. Considering that most chatbots are trained on data from Bing or Google search, such a decision can negatively affect the speed of AI development.

Note that earlier the ChatGPT and Bing neural networks learned to spread gossip.
