What Greed Drives: Why Millions of People Risk Using Legacy Windows 7



Microsoft ended support for the Windows 7 operating system almost a year ago on January 14, 2020. Nevertheless, millions of people continue to use this OS.

According to the British magazine Which ?, specializing in finding out the real consumer choice, Windows 7 is currently used by 13% of computers in the world, that is, more than 1 in 10. Users keep Windows 7 on their PCs, despite the security threats posed by this is a step.

According to the latest data from Statcounter, Windows 7 has even more users – the OS share for this version is 18.03%. Rough calculations show that of the 2 billion computers in the world today, more than 200 million PCs still use an outdated OS.

In Which? also figured out why users do it. The most common reason is that Windows 7 users are unwilling to pay to upgrade. So answered 30% of surveyed users of Windows 7. At the same time, 22% consider Windows 7 easier to use, while 16% of the more modern Windows 10 does not work on their PC.
