Western Digital Introduces PCIe 4.0 M.2 NVMe SSDs

by Henry Brown

Western Digital (WD – ed.) Introduces PCIe 4.0 M.2 NVMe SSDs – the first on the market.

The flagship model SN850 offers 7GB / s read and 5.3GB / s write speeds. How fast is it? Approximately ten times compared to a conventional hard drive, which reads information at a speed of about 0.5 GB / s, but in reality this figure should be divided by two.

Here’s another example: the read speed of an SSD in the Xbox Series X is 2.4 GB / s (up to 4.8 GB / s when working with compression), while the Sony PlayStation 5 has 5.5 GB / s (up to 8-9 GB / s when working with compression).

The SSD comes with a five-year warranty. Three modifications will go on sale: 500GB for $ 150, 1TB for $ 230, and 2TB for $ 450. The drives are available for pre-order on the manufacturer’s website.
