Physicists have discovered a previously unknown type of phase transition, in which atoms spontaneously become “entangled” at the quantum level. The work was published in the journal Nature, the press service of the Dresden University of Technology (TUD) announced the results.

Despite the fact that the existence of quantum entanglement has been proven in the course of several thousand experiments, physicists still cannot say exactly how this phenomenon works and what limits it has. To search for them, scientists conduct experiments to entangle atoms, particles of light and other objects, or individual objects located at large distances.

Professor Vojta and his colleagues have discovered a quantum phenomenon that will speed up such research and also help scientists create new types of quantum technologies. They made this discovery during experiments with an unusual magnetic substance, a compound of lithium, fluorine and holmium (LiHoF4).

As physicists found out 25 years ago, at low ambient temperatures, this substance behaves like a spontaneous ferromagnet, the direction of “magnetization” of which can be changed by acting on it with weak magnetic fields. At the same time, a gradual increase in the strength of these fields leads to the fact that LiHoF4 suddenly loses its magnetic properties.

Researchers from Germany uncovered one of the reasons for the unusual behavior of this material in the course of observing how the quantum properties of individual atoms changed inside LiHoF4. As part of these experiments, scientists cooled the material to a temperature close to absolute zero, and tracked how the quantum properties of individual atoms and the magnetic characteristics of the entire compound as a whole change with changes in the direction and strength of external magnetic fields.

The measurements indicated that the application of an external magnetic field provokes a previously unknown type of phase transition, a sharp spontaneous change in the properties and interactions of a large number of particles. During this process, thousands of atoms in the thickness of LiHoF4 spontaneously entangled with each other, which led to changes in the magnetic properties of this material.

As physicists note, this feature of the lithium, fluorine and holmium compound allows using this material to study quantum interactions between a large number of objects within a full-fledged three-dimensional space. Professor Vojta and his colleagues hope that this will allow their team and other colleagues to create new quantum technologies based on the phenomenon of quantum entanglement.

On the other hand, for quite some time now, the number of nanometers in the name of the process technology says little, and each company considers it differently.

Whether Acer will release only Intel cards is still unknown. In this case, we can see a non-reference design, two eight-pin power connectors at once (the reference card has 6 + 8 connectors) and a very unusual cooling system with two fans, which are very different both in size and design. The smaller one is completely similar to the centrifugal one, but it is impossible to say for sure from one image.

There is also no data on the Acer card yet. Recall, Arc A770 has 8 or 16 GB of memory and 4096 FP32 blocks. The card is priced at $330 or $350, depending on the version. Intel also introduced the more affordable Arc A750, priced at $290.
