Volkswagen at Exynos. Samsung unveils two new automotive platforms
Samsung has unveiled three new in-car solutions.
Two of the new products are Exynos single-chip systems. The Exynos Auto T5123 is the industry’s first 5G solution, according to Samsung. The new SoC is a 3GPP Release 15 telematics control unit specifically designed to provide fast and seamless 5G connectivity in both offline (SA) and non-offline (NSA) modes for the next generation of connected vehicles. The data transfer rate of the Samsung modem is 5.1 Gbps. It is also known to have two Cortex-A55 processor cores and GNSS support.
The company calls the Exynos Auto V7 a powerful processor for the infotainment systems of mid- and high-end cars. There are already eight Cortex-A76 cores with a frequency of 1.5 GHz and a Mali-G76 MP11 GPU. The GPU consists of two separate clusters: three cores are in a small cluster for displaying information on the dashboard screen and AR-HUD, and eight are allocated within a large cluster for the main screen. This physical separation allows the GPU to support multiple systems at the same time and provides more secure operation by preventing one domain from interfering with another. In addition to the CPU and GPU, the new SoC is also equipped with an NPU for various services, such as virtual assistance, which can process visual and audio data for face, speech or gesture recognition functions.
Exynos Auto V7 supports up to four displays and 12 cameras. There are also three HiFi 4 audio processors. The Exynos Auto V7 is currently in mass production and is already in use in Volkswagen’s latest In-Car Application-Server (ICAS) 3.1.
The latest new product from the company is the S2VPS01. This is the power management IC for Exynos Auto V. It is the first Samsung automotive solution to be released under the ISO 26262 Functional Safety Process Certification obtained in 2019, and it also received ASIL-B certification in 2021.
