Virtual real estate site sold for record $ 2.4 million

Published

A piece of virtual real estate in the online world of Decentraland has been sold for a record $ 2.4 million. Decentraland and “cryptoinvestor” Tokens.com, who acted as a buyer, reported on the transaction made using cryptocurrency yesterday.

Decentraland is an online environment, also called the “metaverse,” where users can buy land, visit buildings, walk and meet people in the form of avatars. According to the source, the popularity of such environments has increased this year as the pandemic has forced people to spend more time on the Internet. An additional boost of interest was created last month when Facebook changed its name to Meta to reflect the fact that it will now “focus primarily on the metaverse.”

A feature of Decentraland is the use of blockchain technology. Land and other properties at Decentraland are sold in the form of non-fungible tokens (NFT), a kind of cryptoasset.

Crypto enthusiasts buy land there as a speculative investment using the Decentraland cryptocurrency, MANA.

On Monday, Tokens.com’s subsidiary, called the Metaverse Group, bought the property for 618,000 MANA units, which was around $ 2,428,740 at the time.

The site is located on the Decentraland map in the “Fashion Street” area. According to Tokens.com, it will be used to host digital fashion events and sell virtual clothing for avatars.

The total area, if this concept is applicable to the virtual world, is 566 virtual square meters.

In June, a piece of virtual land in Decentraland was sold for 1,295,000 MANA units, which was $ 913,228 at the time. The buyer built a virtual mall on the site to sell digital clothing, but since then Reuters has visited the site several times and has not seen a single buyer.

MANA’s course is very volatile. It has grown by about 400% since the change to Facebook’s company name, according to Coinbase.

Clone Robotics unveils robotic arm with muscles and skin

Clone Robotics demonstrated its latest development – a robotic arm, which is designed to resemble a human as much as possible. This arm has muscles that are covered with synthetic leather. The muscles were developed by the Clone Robotics team and were based on the idea of the inventor McKibbin, which was used in prostheses back in the 1950s. In fact, such muscles are mesh tubes, inside of which are balls filled with air. An external pneumatic or hydraulic pump inflates the ball, it expands, and as a result, the muscle contracts in the longitudinal direction.

But the creators of the robotic arm did not want to make the pump too bulky and were looking for a design that could simply be applied with an electric current and made it contract. So they filled the balloons with a liquid – acetaldehyde – and placed a heating element in them. When an electric current is applied to it, the liquid boils and the pressure inside the ball increases by more than 6 times. This allows the muscle to contract “impressively fast,” the developers note. The prototype arm is covered in translucent skin so that the movement of the muscles can be seen.

As for the “skeleton” of the hand, it consists of artificial “bones” resembling human ones, on articulated joints to provide a range of motion as close as possible to a human. The developers claim about 27 degrees of freedom: for example, the hand can naturally move the wrist, rotate the thumb, etc., all of which are driven by a complex combination of muscles and tendons. During the tests, the hand was even able to lift a dumbbell.

By the end of 2022, Clone Robotics plans to ship such robotic arms to customers. At the same time, the cost of the device has not yet been reported. With their next product, the company is going to make a full torso with a stiff spine that includes 124 muscles in the neck, shoulders, arms, chest and upper back. He will ride on a platform with a battery.

Fans of top Samsung tablets will have to wait The

Samsung has postponed the launch and even the start of the development process of the new flagship Galaxy Tab S9 tablets.

Tab S8 Ultra

When exactly the new tablets will be released is unknown. Perhaps they will be presented at the end of August at the Unpacked event, where new folding smartphones are usually announced.

Changes in Samsung’s plans are due to the situation in the market. In particular, falling demand for mobile devices and PCs.

The decline in demand is also expected to disrupt Samsung’s plans to manufacture and ship tablets this year. Late last year, the company set a target of 400,000 S8 Ultra models, 900,000 S8 Plus models, and 1.2 million base Tab S8 models.

The iPhone 14 Pro Max performed great, but still fell short of the iPhone 13 Pro Max. The autonomy of the novelty is slightly lower

Considering that the iPhone 13 Pro Max easily put any flagship of last year on the shoulder blades, the iPhone 14 Pro Max is unlikely to disappoint anyone with its autonomy.

If you look at the results in more detail, then there is some noticeable difference just in points for autonomy: 151 points for the new model versus 156 points for the previous model. In more familiar terms, this is 2 days 17 hours and 2 days 20 hours of work in the source test. At the same time, the devices are charged almost identically.
