‘Very profitable’ Yahoo lays off 1,000 people and plans to cut 20% of employees this year
Starting this week, Yahoo will cut about 1,000 jobs, or roughly 12% of its workforce, in the first round of cuts in a larger plan to restructure its ad tech division amid a spate of layoffs across the industry.
The company, owned by Apollo Global Management Inc., plans to cut headcount at its Yahoo for Business advertising technology division by nearly 50% by the end of 2023, or more than 20% of Yahoo’s workforce, a company spokesman said.
“The changes announced today are all about creating a better business plan for this division going forward,” CEO Jim Lanzone said in an interview Thursday. “The company has taken a lot of bites out of the apple trying to make things work over the years, but as a company we have had to be very honest about how we use our resources.”
Yahoo’s restructuring will create a new division called Yahoo Advertising that will focus advertising sales professionals on company properties including Yahoo Finance, Yahoo News and Yahoo Sports.
The company is “very profitable,” Lanzone said, adding that the job cuts were due more to the division’s restructuring than to problems in the advertising market. “We would have made these changes even at the peak of the market,” he said.
Yahoo “is still hiring aggressively,” Lanzone said, and employees who have lost their jobs will be considered for other positions within the company.

Samsung has improved the camera of the recently introduced Galaxy A54 5G – the first firmware update has been released for it

Only 10 days have passed since the premiere of the Samsung Galaxy A54 5G, and now the company has already released the first firmware update for it. The software is designated as A546BXXU1AWC4 and is only 228MB in size.
Nevertheless, there are many innovations, and the most important of them is the improvement of the camera. The software will also update many Samsung branded apps (including Kids, Free, Internet browser, Samsung Health, SmartThings, Galaxy Shop, Samsung Members, Wallet, calculator, voice recorder, etc.) and install the February Android security updates.
Recall that the Samsung Galaxy A54 5G is built on the Exynos 1380 SoC, equipped with a 6.4-inch AMOLED screen and a frame rate of 120 Hz, a 5000 mAh battery with support for 25 W charging, a 32-megapixel front camera and a main camera with resolution sensors. 50, 12 and 5 MP and OIS system in the main module. After the release of the smartphone, it became known that it was the first mid-range Samsung model to support Wi-Fi 6 and be equipped with an eSIM.

The first Geely crossover with Meizu Flyme Auto interface, Harman Kardon acoustics and a 92-inch projection screen. Lynk & Co 08 introduced

Geely-owned brand Lynk & Co has unveiled its most advanced crossover, the Lynk & Co 08. This is a rather large, but still mid-size model that has a number of noteworthy features.
Alas, the creators did not reveal all the cards: it is only reported that the power plant here is hybrid with a 1.5-liter turbocharged engine and a thermal efficiency of 44.26%. But there should be a lot of power, and the drive will certainly be complete. More details about the technical part of the car will appear in April, and prices will probably be announced at the same time.
The dimensions of the crossover are 4820 x 1915 x 1685 mm, the wheelbase is decent – 2848 mm. Among the features of the exterior design are handles hidden in the door, 21-inch rims and pronounced lighting graphics. It is reported that there will be various lighting effects, and the matrix headlights use 32 LEDs each.
The lack of data on technology is compensated by data on equipment – Geely has also published many photos of the interior, which reflect key points. For example, Lynk & Co 08 is the brand’s first car with a Harman Kardon sound system. And he is the first with a media system with the Meizu Flyme Auto interface (recall, Meizu has recently been owned by Geely).
There are three screens in the cabin of the crossover. Digital dashboard graphics are displayed on a 12.3-inch display, a 15.4-inch screen is installed in the center of the front panel, and the highlight is a huge 92-inch projection screen.
Interestingly, the Ecarx Antora 1000 Pro single-chip system, which seems to have been developed by Meizu itself, is responsible for the operation of the media system, as well as many auxiliary systems and driver assistance systems. It is more powerful than the Qualcomm SA8155P SoC traditionally used in Chinese cars due to the inclusion of two 7-nanometer single-chip systems at once.

Huawei nova 11 may be the world’s first mid-range models with satellite connectivity

This week, Huawei introduced the flagships P60, P60 Pro and P60 Art with support for two-way satellite communication, and this was expected – Apple and Huawei are actively promoting such technology, although the Chinese company has already surpassed Apple in terms of convenience (two-way communication is clearly more convenient than one-way). But now Huawei may be able to pull off another technological marvel by adding satellite connectivity to mid-range devices.
Huawei nova 11 can become such smartphones. Even the date of their premiere in China is reported – April 17th. If the devices in this series do receive satellite communications support, then this will be a precedent in the industry. It is also reported that nova 11 can borrow technology from the P60 and Mate X3 line of phones to improve the quality of communication.
