Users found that Cyberpunk 2077 ignores SMT on AMD chips, logical cores on Intel are completely used

Reddit users discovered that Cyberpunk 2077 seems to ignore Simultaneous Multithreading (SMT) and mostly only use physical CPU cores on AMD PCs. On computers with Intel chips, the game uses all available physical and logical CPU cores.
The forum suggested a solution – to change a few bytes in the EXE file of the game. You need to find the line “75 30 33 C9 B8 01 00 00 00 0F A2 8B C8 C1 F9 08” in the Hex editor and change it to “EB 30 33 C9 B8 01 00 00 00 0F A2 8B C8 C1 F9 08”. In this case, on a PC with AMD chips, all logical cores of the central processor will be used, and the game performance will improve by 10-20%.

Some users suggested that this is due to the fact that Cyberpunk 2077 uses the Intel C ++ compiler, which prevents the game from optimizing when running on third-party processors. However, they did not find a solidification of this theory.
Now main version users – when the game starts, the performance of the current system is checked using the library GPUOpen so that the game scheduler can use the optimal number of cores, depending on the processor family the players are using. For some reason, after checking on a PC with AMD, the scheduler allocates fewer threads for the game.
Users have clarified that this check is probably not “wrong” per se, but it might not have been originally used in Cyberpunk 2077 as a way to optimize user system performance and thread usage. In any case, the game development team may release a new patch that will fix this problem.
Originally users tried replace the line “75 30 33 C9 B8 01 00 00 00 0F A2 8B C8 C1 F9 08” with “74 30 33 C9 B8 01 00 00 00 0F A2 8B C8 C1 F9 08”. However, it soon became clear that such a replacement was not entirely optimal, since it inverted the incorrect check of the GPUOpen library, and did not neutralize it. On PCs with Intel processors, such a replacement is not recommended, even for the sake of testing.
It is noteworthy that yesterday the management of the CD PROJEKT RED studio took responsibility for the bugs and problems discovered by users at the start of the Cyberpunk 2077 game.
December 11 came out fourth patch for Cyberpunk 2077, which fixes numerous bugs in the game, including quest mechanics, gameplay, character visualization, and also improves the performance and stability of both versions of the game on PC and game consoles.
