“We are going to launch two interacting satellite prototypes into space in March 2023”he said at a hearing before the Armed Services Committee of the US House of Representatives.

According to Hill, the satellites will be placed into orbit in such a way that they can be used to “surveillate tests” under the operational responsibility of the US Indo-Pacific Command. “We will collect this data to prove the concept is correct.”Hill added. According to him, in the future it is possible to create an entire satellite constellation for these purposes.

The director of the Agency for Missile Defense noted that three private companies are currently involved in the creation of the American system of protection against hypersonic weapons, which “compete with each other.” Hill said that “later this year,” depending on the proposals of these firms, the Pentagon will choose one or two of them. The Department will continue to work with them.

Hill also said that the United States is developing systems designed to protect American ships, including aircraft carriers, from hypersonic weapons. But he did not provide details.
