Upgraded telescope “William Herschel” in the Canary Islands will be engaged in a detailed study of the origin of the Milky Way

Located at an observatory in the Canary Islands, the William Herschel telescope will be able to investigate the origin of the Milky Way in more detail after installing the unique Weev device on it.

Upgraded telescope

Work on the Weave device, consisting of 80,000 parts, has been going on for more than 10 years. It consists of a disc with many fiber optic tubes. When pointing the telescope at a certain part of the sky, astronomers determine the position of about 1000 stars, after which the Weev robotic “fingers” extend a tube to the corresponding place on the disk for each of the celestial bodies. Through it, the light enters another device, where the spectral analysis of the studied space object takes place.

The study of information from all threads takes about an hour, during which a set of the next 1000 objects is prepared on the other side of the disk, to which fiber-optic tubes are pulled. Thus, in less than a year, astronomers will be able to study about 5 million stars, including determining their age and chemical composition. “Weev will also help to explore the process of formation of large galaxies and understand how many of them formed our galaxy.”, Gavin Dalton, the creator of the device, explained.

The William Herschel telescope was built in 1987 and is the second largest in Europe. Thanks to him, a huge black hole in the center of the Milky Way was discovered and the first observations of a gamma-ray burst were made. The telescope is named after the British astronomer William Herschel (1738 – 1822), who discovered the planet Uranus and the moons of Saturn.

GTA VI will set a new bar for quality for

Take-Two management said that developers from Rockstar Games are working on a new part of Grand Theft Auto. Development is in full swing and it seems that GTA VI will set a new standard for quality for the entire entertainment industry.

Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick stated that the Rockstar Games team “intends to once again set the creative benchmark for the series, our industry, and the entire entertainment industry.”

He confirmed that the next part of Grand Theft Auto will be no less significant than all the previous ones. In July, Rockstar mentioned the need to exceed the expectations of the players and make the new part as high quality as possible.

According to the latest data, the project was heavily cut, probably to speed up development. Instead of three planned cities, there will be one, and they decided to reduce the four main characters to two.

In addition, the developers have plans to add more cities to the game as additional content after the release. Also, do not forget about the modder support, which will extend the life of the game for many years.

The release of the game is expected no earlier than 2024.

Keep military and K9 dogs out of danger US

The military’s youngest branch, the US Space Force, is starting to use robotic dogs to automate “damage assessment and patrols” at the Cape Canaveral Space Force station, according to a statement from the US Department of Defense. This will significantly save man-hours.

Ghost Robotics’ Q-UGV robots are equipped with sophisticated audio and video communication software. They can function autonomously, but they can also be controlled remotely, from a controller and even with audio commands, if necessary.

On its website, Ghost Robotics describes the robots as “Tough, agile and rugged all-weather ground drones.” They are ultimately designed to “keep the military, workers and K9 dogs out of harm’s way”.

Robot dogs were first used by the Americans at Tyndall Air Force Base in Florida back in 2020, and they have made their way to other Air Force bases since then.
