Twitch says it banned 15 million bot accounts in 2021

Published

on

“Hate raids” have been a long-standing problem on Twitch, but they’ve gotten especially dire over the past year. That’s why the platform promised to do more to alleviate the problem, along with announcing that it banned a total of 15 million bot accounts in 2021.

“Targeted attacks, known more widely as hate raids, were unacceptable. No one should have to experience this kind of treatment on Twitch, or anywhere. As we said before, these attacks were orchestrated by highly determined criminals, but their efforts are not sorry for what happened, nor for how long it went on.” – said Angela Hession, vice president of global security and trust at Twitch, and who signs a open letter of the platform to its users.

Hession recognizes that Twitch needs to do more and improve the platform’s security conditions for users. Especially members of LBTQIA+ communities and other minority groups, as these people are the biggest targets of hate raids.

The executive highlights the importance of community feedback in achieving this, and also comments on some areas of focus for Twitch in 2022:

  • Improvements in the reporting process and user appeals
  • Updates to the sexual content policy
  • Security Council updates inspired by user feedback
  • More content and programs in the Security Center, with live streams, etc.

These are the most realistic artificial voices of the moment

Published

on

We are used to hearing computer generated voices on different devices. In smart assistants, in gadgets, in ebook readers, on websites…. these voices are more and more present, but they continue to feel artificial, something that will cease to be so in a few years.

The fact is that there are already artificial intelligence engines capable of creating voice systems that are extremely natural, and today I will show you where to listen to them.

Is about vocalora.com, a web project that uses one of the world’s most sophisticated speech engines to simulate the voice of 5 different English accents, using 18 different voices in the process.

We can paste a text (in English) and select the desired voice from all the available ones. Once done, we will click on the Read Text button that appears on the right. If during the reading process we put a different voice, both will be heard at the same time.

Both male and female voices and children’s voices are available, and the result is so impressive that it is difficult to understand how our vacuum cleaner continues to speak with an 80’s movie voice.

We can try vocalora for free, but if we need readings of several hours, we will have to go through the premium subscription (about 20 dollars per month).

At the moment there are no projects with the same quality in Spanish, at least not on a website of these characteristics, available to the general public, although it is a sector that is advancing a lot, so it will not be long before we have something like this soon in our language.

Mobile GeForce RTX 3070 Ti is faster than Titan RTX and nearly as fast as Radeon RX 6800

On January 5 at CES 2022, Nvidia introduced new graphics cards, including the mobile GeForce RTX 3080 Ti and GeForce RTX 3070 Ti. During the announcement, Nvidia revealed that the top model is faster than the desktop GeForce Titan RTX, but what about the GeForce RTX 3070 Ti? Now this 3D accelerator has been tested in Geekbench (as part of the MSI Vector GP66 laptop), and in the OpenCL test, it showed a result exactly on the level of Titan RTX. What’s more, the desktop Radeon RX 6800 isn’t far ahead.

Given that GeForce RTX 3070 Ti laptops start at $1,500, this is a very good deal for both gamers and those looking to purchase a laptop for professional use. Mobile PCs with the GeForce RTX 3080 Ti are already much more expensive, starting at $2,500. Interestingly, the Radeon RX 6800 retails for around the same $1,500, so users will have the choice of buying just the graphics card for the same amount, or an entire laptop with graphics performance nearly equivalent to that graphics card.
