TSMC to be sole supplier of 5G RF chips for Apple iPhone 14 smartphones
Citing data from the supply chain, the source claims that TSMC pushed back Samsung and received all orders for 5G RF chips for next-generation Apple smartphones, which are expected to be released at the end of the year.
As stated, the chips used for cellular connectivity will be upgraded to a 6-nanometer process technology. In fact, this process is part of TSMC’s 7nm family of processes, and it was the one that brought the contract manufacturer the most revenue last year.
The process technology was announced at the TSMC Technology Forum in 2021. Then the Taiwanese company said that it provides a significant reduction in the power consumption of 5G RF transceivers and allows you to reduce the area occupied by them on a chip.
In addition, it has been reported that Apple’s development of its own 5G RF chips is having a negative impact on companies such as Qualcomm, Broadcom and Skyworks. And it’s not just that they will lose a customer when Apple moves its own element base. Now Apple is actively poaching their specialists. The source recalls that approximately 20% of Broadcom’s business comes from Apple orders, and in the case of Skyworks this figure is even higher at 60%.

Among the most expensive flagships above $708, the Red Magic 8 Pro+ leads the way, followed by the Oppo Find X6 Pro and Honor Magic5 Pro.
