TSMC chief named the real reason for the shortage of microcircuits

Published

on

TSMC Chairman Mark Liu in a recently published interview with TIME Magazine named one of the reasons for the shortage of chips. It seems that along with natural factors that have disrupted the normal operation of the industry, there are also artificial ones.

When carmakers, who were among the first to experience semiconductor shortages, accused TSMC of failing to meet production volumes, Liu instructed his subordinates to collect data to try to figure out what was going on. As it turned out, some of the customers in the supply chain were actually running out of inventory, but others were piling up products at the same time.

As a result, TSMC decided to reallocate capacity in favor of the first category of customers. Apparently, this decision was unpopular, but given the current situation, it seems fair. According to Liu, “there are people who are definitely stockpiling chips from nowhere in the supply chain,” meaning that the problem is not really TSMC or the increased needs of end-users of semiconductor products, but resellers and distributors who accumulate chips in warehouses to rise prices.

Adata proudly shared the result of overclocking DDR5 memory: the company’s specialists managed to achieve a speed of 8118 MT / s. No technical specifications for the experiment were announced, but there is no doubt that the Intel Alder Lake platform was used – this is the first custom system with support for DDR5. There is no doubt that the overclocking used a motherboard based on the Intel Z690 chipset.

Adata claims to have achieved 8118 MT / s as the first RAM manufacturer. But it is possible that after the official premiere of Alder Lake next week, other DDR5 memory manufacturers will mark similar records.

It should be noted that back in August, Adata promised DDR5 memory with a speed of 8400 MT / s, but then a reservation was made that it would not be included in the number of modules of the first wave. That is, faster DDR5 memory will most likely appear in a year or two.
