TrendForce predicts over 5 billion smartphone camera modules to be shipped this year

In response to the growing consumer focus on camera performance when choosing a smartphone, manufacturers are ramping up the release of multi-camera models to meet this growing demand and strengthen their position in the market. This, in turn, leads to an increase in the annual supply of camera modules for smartphones.

Illustrative data is contained in a report prepared by TrendForce experts. Despite the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the smartphone market in 2020 and the decline in sales of these devices, shipments of smartphone camera modules increased by 3% compared to 2019. Believing that the trend will continue, analysts predict that 5.07 billion camera modules will be shipped this year, up 11% from 2020.

The resolution of cameras is also growing. TrendForce predicts that 20% of Android smartphones will have 64MP cameras this year (by the way, this is the fastest growing segment). Analysts point out that the resolution of the main camera of next-generation iPhones is likely to be 12 megapixels.
