Toyota fails to meet car production plan

For the fourth month, Toyota is unable to meet its planned production targets. In July, the company produced 706,547 new vehicles, down 8.6% from July last year. The company planned to produce 800,000 cars.

Since April, Toyota has not been able to fulfill the production plan. In the first four months of fiscal 2022, which began in April for Toyota, the automaker produced 10.3% fewer vehicles than planned. In Japan, Toyota’s production fell by 28.2%, while output at overseas plants rose by 4.5%.

The company explains the decline in production volumes for several reasons. First, there is the continuing global shortage of semiconductors. Secondly, another quarantine restrictions due to new outbreaks of COVID-19 in the Asian region, which led to the suspension of factories in July, as we reported. Also, the decline in production was affected by difficult weather conditions and the recall of several batches of cars.

Toyota remains hopeful of ramping up production by November to reach its planned annual target of 9.7 million new vehicles. In September, the company expects to produce at least 850,000 cars.

Ford has come up with a new solution to reduce the turning radius of cars. If other companies add a steered rear axle, then Ford suggests reducing the turning radius by changing the torque on individual wheels.

The manufacturer has already filed a corresponding patent application with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO). The description of the patent says that a special controller will monitor indicators such as steering angle and wheel speed, thereby determining the need to reduce the turning radius. Ford calls this feature “turn assist mode.”

When this mode is activated, the system reduces the torque transmitted to the rear inner wheel and sends more torque to both front wheels. Torque reduction for the rear wheels can be achieved by braking, and therefore the system can be used, including for front-wheel drive vehicles.

It is not yet known when such a system will be implemented in Ford production vehicles. It is quite possible that the development will not reach the stage of commercialization.

Ford management looked for alternative solutions, but finding them turned out to be more difficult than one might think at first. In particular, the manufacturer tested 3D-printed logos as a temporary solution, but in the end, the company abandoned this idea, since such nameplates turned out to be of poor quality.

Tribar Technologies, which supplies exterior trim to Ford and many other manufacturers, was reportedly forced to halt production in August after dumping industrial chemicals into the local sewer system. According to the source, the release did not cause significant harm to the environment and at the moment Tribar is operating at full capacity. However, the suspension of production may well have been the cause of the shortage faced by Ford.

The other day, Ford said that by the end of the quarter, the company will have between 40,000 and 45,000 new vehicles in stock that cannot be shipped to dealers due to a shortage of parts. In addition to the shortage of nameplates, the manufacturer is in dire need of chips and other important components. According to analysts, supply problems may persist until 2024.

The new generation Lynk & Co 03 sedan from Geely and Volvo has gone on sale in the Chinese market. The car received a new exterior, interior and engines.

Lynk & Co 03 is built by two companies on the CMA platform known from Geely Tugella. The first generation of the car was released in 2018. The new generation retained the style, but became sportier thanks to the large grille, bumper and new DRLs. At the rear is a single element of the lanterns. The sports version of the sedan called 03+ received a spoiler, as well as an exhaust system with four tailpipes.

The dimensions of the new car were 4684 x ​​1843 x 1460 mm with a wheelbase of 2730 mm. It has increased by 27 mm in length and 3 mm in width, while the height has decreased by 12 mm. The screens have become larger, the diagonal of the digital “tidy” is 12.3 inches versus 10.25 for the previous generation. And the diagonal of the main screen is now 12.8 inches.

The car has 25 autonomous driving sensors, including 12 ultrasonic radars and 5 mm radars. Petrol versions lost the 1.5-liter engine, which was replaced by a 2-liter turbo engine with 254 hp. A couple of this motor will be a 7-speed “robot”. And the more productive Lynk & Co 03+ will get a 265 hp engine, all-wheel drive and an 8-speed torque converter.

The hybrid version is based on a 1.5-liter ICE with 150 hp, paired with a 3-speed DHT Pro gearbox. The total power reaches 245 hp. and 545 Nm. The fuel consumption of the system in this case will be 4.5 l / 100 km.
