Samsung has in its range of smartphones with flexible screens – Galaxy Z Fold and Galaxy Z Flip, and in the future they may add a tablet computer with a flexible screen. Such a product is described in a patent application with a cumbersome title “Method and apparatus for providing a user interface in a foldable display electronic device», Registered in the databases of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) and the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).
The foldable tablet was tentatively named Galaxy Z Fold Tab, which is quite in the spirit of the company’s current nomenclature. As you can see, it is equipped with two rows of hinges – left and right, dividing the screen into three parts.
When folded, the outer halves form a small gap – just for the camera, the modules of which are lined up in a row, and the stylus.
The device can take three positions: fully unfolded, fully folded, and when one of the halves is set at an angle to a horizontal surface, it acts as a stand, giving the main part of the screen a tilt.
It should be noted that this is far from the first patent of a Samsung device, the screen of which can be folded in more than one place. The company is clearly working on solutions like the Galaxy Z Fold Tab, and they will be rolled out to a commercial device at some point. It is not clear only how long it will take for this: a year or maybe three.
Meanwhile, rumor has it that the Galaxy Z Fold 3 is already in mass production. The premiere of the smartphone is expected in July – along with the new model of the Galaxy Z Flip series. Earlier it was reported that the company plans to sell about 7 million devices with flexible screens by the end of the year.
