Ultimate Ears has been making interesting headphones for 25 years. These are earplugs designed specifically for your ears. Moreover, the shape suitable for you is created after you have bought and inserted the headphones into your ears.
What’s the point?
The whole point is in the material from which the outer shell of the earphone is made, inserted into the ear canal. It is quite pliable and completely fills the ear canal without inconvenience to the user.
The supple Lightform is made from a soft gel. The first time trying on headphones, you need to launch an application on your smartphone, which will help the gel harden in 60 seconds. This happens using special LEDs. And this process is irreversible! But you will probably be able to replace the gel ear pads themselves if you suddenly decide to resell the headphones.
What is it for?
The first headphones Jerry Harvey, together with his wife Mindy, prepared specially for the drummer of the group Van Halen – he wanted to hear what other musicians were playing on stage, but even very loud stage monitors did not help in this.
Jerry, being the band’s concert sound engineer, prepared a pair for him, which not only allowed other musicians to be heard, but also protected the ear from the very loud noise of the drum kit played by Alex Van Halen. The headphones turned out to be so good and comfortable that other band members asked for one too.
A few years later, Jerry Harvey, already under the Ultimate Ears brand, helped the renowned Shure company prepare the E1 and E5 custom in-ear monitors. This helped the company get the name that came from The Rolling Stones, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Lady Gaga and Ben Harper.
What are Ultimate Ears Fits?
The company has been producing consumer headphones for quite some time. It was acquired by Logitech in 2008 and made its subsidiary. Since then, the company has significantly changed the vector of development, including the release of portable acoustics:
Ultimate Ears Fits is a race after the market that TWS headphones are conquering. The concept is simple: take a typical Ultimate Ears earmuff with a custom-fit membrane and cut off all the wires. In general, everything. As a result, this comes out:
Headphones look very unusual until you put them in your ears:
I can definitely say that they will attract less attention to themselves than any Microsoft Surface Earbuds.
In addition to the shape and materials, these headphones are not remarkable for anything special: Bluetooth 5.0, SBC, aptX and AAC, reproducible frequencies from 20 Hz to 20 kHz, 10 minutes of charging will give an hour of listening to music. But the battery life for TWS headphones is impressive: 8 hours of continuous listening to music, and the case will recharge the headphones 2.5 times. Good results.
There is no active noise suppression, but I suppose it is not needed – Ultimate Ears Fits should have excellent passive sound insulation. And thanks to the gel shape, the headphones should sound very good (if, of course, the appropriate components are selected).
So far, Ultimate Ears has announced pre-orders for Fits in three colors: navy blue, gray and lilac. The starting price is $ 199. The earbuds will go on sale this fall and then their price will rise to $ 250. These prices are, of course, before taxes.
