They should be removed from the browser: many malicious Google Chrome extensions with 75 million installations found
Google has removed dozens of malicious extensions from the Chrome Web Store that could modify search results, send spam, or insert unwanted ads. Together, these extensions have been downloaded and installed 75 million times.
The malware was first discovered by cybersecurity researcher Vladimir Palant. During the analysis of the PDF Toolbox extension, the expert found that it contains a hidden code that allows you to inject arbitrary JavaScript code into any website that the user visits. The code is activated 24 hours after the extension is installed, which is a typical behavior of such malware.
Then Palant discovered 17 more similar malicious extensions. Avast researchers added to the list and eventually found 32 malicious extensions. Among the most popular ones are Autoskip for YouTube with 9 million active users, Soundboost with 6.9 million and Crystal Ad block with 6.8 million.
Google has already stated that these extensions have already been removed from the Chrome Web Store. Although the extensions have been removed from the store, users are still at risk until they manually remove them from their PCs. The full list of malicious extensions can be found here.

The update forces Microsoft Edge into tablet mode, even on desktop PCs running Windows 11 and 10. But there is a way out

The latest update released by Microsoft has led to a strange crash in the proprietary Microsoft Edge browser on PCs running Windows 11 and Windows 10 operating systems. The problem was brought to the attention of the WindowsLatest thematic resource.
As the source notes, after the update, the browser interface automatically switched to “touch” or “tablet” mode, which is characterized by increased buttons and distances between interface elements, including tabs. Typically this interface is used to make the browser more touch-friendly. The problem is that this mode appears on regular computers with Windows 10 and Windows 11 without a touch screen, including desktop ones.
Apparently, Microsoft mistakenly enabled tablet support mode. As a result of the failure, desktop PCs are identified as tablets and touch mode is activated.
Fortunately, WindowsLatest found a very simple way out of the situation. The user only needs to go to the browser settings, go to the “Appearance” section and manually disable “touch mode”.

Redmi K70 Pro could be one of the first smartphones to run on Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. A test on Geekbench showed that it has 16 GB of RAM and Android 14

A new Xiaomi smartphone with catalog number 23117RK66C has appeared in the Geekbench database. According to the ITHome resource, this designation hides the future Redmi flagship – Redmi K70 Pro. Considering that the prototype was tested (and even in Geekbench 5), you can ignore the test results, but there is confirmation that this model is built on Qualcomm’s new top-end SoC – Snapdragon 8 Gen 3.
The code designation for this single-chip system is manet. It is also interesting that the Redmi K70 Pro has 16 GB of RAM and Android 14 pre-installed.
Considering that the test of the new Redmi flagship appeared unusually early, one might think that the smartphone will be released earlier than its predecessors. The premiere of Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 is expected on October 24, the first day of the annual Snapdragon Summit, followed by announcements of production models based on this SoC. That is, the premiere of Redmi K70 Pro could take place as early as November.

We’ve been waiting for this for more than ten years: a separate WhatsApp application for iPad has appeared, but not for everyone yet

The team of the popular WhatsApp messenger decided to take a historic step – they launched a beta version of the application for Apple tablets. WhatsApp has not had a separate native app for iPad for many years, forcing people to use the web version of the messenger.
The application is not available to all WhatsApp users yet. As noted by the thematic resource WABetaInfo, a test version of the messenger numbered 23.19.1.71, compatible with iPad, has become available for participants in beta testing of WhatsApp for iOS.
To take part in the test, you must sign up for the WhatsApp beta program and download the apps to your iPhone and iPad. Next, you need to set up WhatsApp on your iPad by going to the “Paired Devices” section on your phone.
WABetaInfo notes that WhatsApp for iPad does allow you to use the app independently of your phone. At the same time, the iPad application synchronizes sent and received messages with other user devices. Unfortunately, it appears that some features, such as the real-time location feature and status updates, are not working properly right now.
