‘These photos are phenomenal’ – Ingenuity helicopter sends new images from the Red Planet during record-breaking flight

The Ingenuity Mars Helicopter continues to delight space enthusiasts with views of the Red Planet that we’ve never seen before.

On its last flight on April 19, Ingenuity photographed the parachute and debris that helped it and the Perseverance rover land inside Lake Zero Crater on the Red Planet on February 18, 2021.

The Ingenuity team has been asked to try to photograph the Perseverance landing gear to aid a joint NASA-European Space Agency Mars sample return project that aims to bring material collected by Perseverance to Earth, possibly as early as 2033.

“Perseverance had the most documented Mars landing in history, with cameras showing everything from parachute inflation to landing,” said Ian Clark of NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) in Southern California. This is a former Perseverance Systems Engineer now involved in the ascent phase of the Mars Sample Return.

But Ingenuity’s images offer a different perspective. If they either confirm that our systems worked the way we think, or if they provide even one set of engineering information that we can use to plan the return of samples from Mars, that would be amazing. And if not, these photos are still phenomenal and inspiring.

During the 159-second flight on April 19, Ingenuity took 10 photographs of the hull and parachute from various angles. According to JPL representatives, the helicopter covered a total of 360 meters, flying at an altitude of 8 meters.

This was Ingenuity’s 26th trip to the Red Planet, and it happened on the anniversary of its first historic trip to Mars.

How powerful will the new flagship smartphones be The Snapdragon

The maximum frequencies of single-chip systems for smartphones have not changed for many years. But the new Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC could be very different from anything that came before. According to MyDrivers, Qualcomm’s new platform’s super-core frequency could reach an impressive 3.72 GHz!

For comparison, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 is 3.2 GHz, while the version for Galaxy has a frequency increased to 3.36 GHz. That is, there will be an increase of 16% relative to the regular version. And in general, this is a very high value for mobile SoCs based on the Arm architecture.

According to leaks, Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 will have a configuration of 1 + 5 + 2, that is, there will be only two energy-efficient cores. This should greatly improve performance even without taking into account frequencies, but how voracious such a platform will be is an open question.

The network already has the result of the new SoC in Geekbench, where the platform scores 1930 and 6236 points in single-threaded and multi-threaded modes, respectively, but this is so much that for now it is worth treating this result with caution.
