We already wrote about this unique drone: a Pentagon division called Army Futures Command launched a long-term test project for the Airbus Zephyr stratospheric multi-purpose drone on June 15. The device circled mainly over the southwestern part of the United States at an altitude of more than 20 km. But on August 19, ground controllers who controlled the drone using satellite communications lost contact with it.

After 64 days of flying in the stratosphere and performing numerous tasks, the Zephyr mission encountered circumstances that led to the termination of its current flight. No harm done. Our teams are currently analyzing over 1,500 hours of mission data in the stratosphere. The Simple Flying resource tracked the last moments of the Airbus Zephyr flight. On his last day, he circled the Arizona desert. Flying slightly lower than usual, at an altitude of about 13-15 km, he made an S-shaped maneuver at a speed of about 100 km / h when something went wrong. ADSB resource data recorded an increasing rate of vertical descent, which increased rapidly, reaching a mark of 83 km / h. And although the fall has not yet been officially confirmed by Airbus Defense, everything indicates that the drone crashed.

Zephyr is unique in that it can fly for a very long time. Its ability to make long flights is due to the use of solar energy. Solar panels on the top side continuously absorb sunlight throughout the day, providing enough power to power its propellers both day and night. Flying high in the stratosphere, the drone does not depend on terrestrial weather conditions, which allows it to receive almost continuously solar energy. In addition, despite a decent length of 25 meters, its mass is small – only 75 kg.

Zephyr has already set several records. So, he holds the record for the longest unmanned flight, and it was set back in 2018. The drone also set a new maximum altitude record for solutions in its class – 23.2 km. With his current flight, he almost broke another record, perhaps the most important one – for the duration of the flight.

The longest flight on record is 64 days and 22 hours by two pilots of a Cessna 172 Skyhawk. And although we are talking about a drone now, if it remained in contact with ground services for one more day, it would set a world record for the longest flight in history.

At the end of September, it became clear how good smartphones in the new iPhone 14 line are in terms of performance. According to Antutu experts, although the iPhone 14 did not perform very well, the iPhone 14 Pro still boasts good results thanks to the A16 SoC and 6 GB of RAM.

As we can see, the iPhone 14 Pro managed to take 4th place in the ranking, losing in performance to Apple tablets – iPad Pro 5 of different diagonals and iPad Air 5 based on the Apple M1 SoC. At the same time, the more expensive and larger iPhone 14 Pro Max took fifth place, scoring less than the iPhone 14 Pro.

According to Antutu experts, the reason for this is due to the large screen size of the iPhone 14 Pro Max. Assuming that the basic configuration of the two models is almost the same, the difference in screen size gives a difference of about 2000 pixels. The base model iPhone 14 got into the Antutu rating, but only in tenth place.

Last year’s iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max took eighth and seventh places, respectively, and the iPhone 13 was not included in the ranking.

The data was collected from September 1 to September 30, 2022. It is worth noting that the table shows the average, not the highest results, while at least 1000 tests were used for each model.

Presumably, the first flagship smartphone will be officially presented, in which Snapdragon 8 Gen2 will debut. In addition, manufacturers will announce support for the platform and promise to release new products.

Mydrivers writes that almost every Chinese manufacturer has already received a new chip, while some received it quite a while ago. The super core will be replaced by Cortex X3, which will have 22% higher performance than Cortex X2.

In addition, the GPU of the chip is expected to be upgraded to Adreno 740 and the X70 5G modem will support download speeds up to 10Gbps. The result in AnTuTu is expected to exceed 1.2 million points.

It is expected that the first smartphone based on the new platform will be Xiaomi 13. The smartphone should formally be announced on the same day, November 14, but the full presentation will take place later.
