The Twisted Metal reboot would have gone internally at PlayStation

There is something new in the news of Twisted Metal, one of the iconic PlayStation franchises. The famous reboot of the game of automobile destruction awaited for a very long time, would have changed developer according to the sources of the American site VideoGamesChronicles.

The first rumors attached the project to the English teams of Lucid Games, to whom we owe All-Stars Destruction, another car break game, recently released on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5. But it seems that the game has changed course to arrive internally at the Japanese firm …

Change of garage

No reason was given for this sudden developer change. Nevertheless, the title should stay on the old continent and move to another PlayStation first-party studio… Without further indication. This reboot of Twisted Metal, supposedly free-to-play, would only be in its early stages of production and shouldn’t see the light of day for a while… If the rumors are true. All-Stars Destruction was one of the first PlayStation 5 games offered as part of the PlayStation Plus subscription — but struggled to find a stable and loyal player base, despite this semi-free entry offer.

The project has been in the making for several years now, without giving any concrete news. The last episode of the franchise, soberly titled Twisted Metal, also acted as a reboot. Released in 2012 exclusively on PlayStation 3, the title was warmly received by the public and critics, after a long journey through the desert for the license … Without arousing enough enthusiasm at Sony to follow it up. Love for Twisted Metal is very largely a North American affair, where the first titles on PlayStation enjoy a very good reputation.

The news Twisted Metal is also going to be written on the small screen — this time, by Hollywood. A television series adaptation went into production in February 2021 at the PlayStation branch dedicated to television and film adaptations of the brand’s licenses.
