The Steam Deck game console has become a huge hit. All consoles are sold out, deliveries on new orders are expected only in October
On February 25, sales of the Steam Deck game console started, but the method of its distribution is different from the usual retail: Valve sends letters to those who have previously made a reservation, and they have 72 hours to pay the full cost of the console and complete the purchase, after which the console will be sent to the specified address . That is, sales seem to have started, but in reality, the console cannot be bought in retail. Now Valve has updated the pre-order page, and, judging by it, those who are preoccupied with buying a Steam Deck now will have to wait a very long time.
Now the company is still accepting orders, but the deadline for their execution is “after the third quarter of 2022“. That is, if you order the console now, then the earliest when it can be received is in October of this year. To order, you need to make a deposit of $ 5, and then the model with confirmation in 72 hours is still valid. The deposit is refundable, so in case of cancellation of the purchase, this amount will be returned back to the account.
Valve also announced yesterday that by the end of 2022 it is going to expand the list of countries in which it will be possible to order Steam Deck. There is no complete list, so far only Japan is mentioned.

Will PlayStation have fewer exclusives? Sony plans to release half of its PlayStation Studios games on PC and smartphones

Sony has outlined its immediate plans for the game for PC and mobile platforms.
CEO Jim Ryan said that Sony plans to have half of the games created by its internal studios in fiscal year 2025, including on PC and smartphones.
That is, only 50% of the games will remain exclusive, while the rest will be available to a much larger number of gamers. This is similar to Phil Spencer’s position on the Xbox.
From the chart, you can see that the share of PCs will still be higher than the share of smartphones, which should please gamers who prefer large single-player games. The share of Sony games on smartphones is now about 10%, and in three years it should double. In the case of the PC, there is no exact data, but the share of such projects will not grow so significantly.
Most likely, the big story games for the most part, as now, will be released only on the PlayStation, and will migrate to the PC years later. What kind of games will be released on PC and smartphones? Judging by Ryan’s statement, including game-services. It turns out that Sony is now working on 12 such projects at once. According to the head of PlayStation, if at least some of these projects become successful, it will greatly transform the company’s business structure.
Historically, PlayStation Studios has done an excellent job of building a vast portfolio of single-player games with rich storytelling and beautiful graphics, but we’ve certainly limited ourselves to a fairly narrow section of the gaming market.
By expanding into PCs and mobile devices, and, it must be said, into online services, we have the opportunity to move from a very narrow segment of the overall gaming software market to a presence almost everywhere.
For example, I would say that if we manage to make some of the 12 service games that we develop at PlayStation Studios… if only some of them are commercially successful, then the impact of this will completely transform our business structure over time.
Given the success of Sony games on PC, it’s no surprise that the share of such games will continue to grow. As for the mobile segment, it has long occupied more than half of the entire gaming industry in terms of money. By the way, we recall that the first of the PlayStation 5 exclusives may soon be released on the PC.

Sony unexpectedly marked the “date of death” of the PlayStation 4

Even though the PlayStation 5 sales are nowhere near what Sony would like it to be, the company is very optimistic about the PS5. So optimistic that it revealed the “date of death” of the PlayStation 4, which to this day brings huge profits to Sony (for example, 69% of PlayStation Plus subscribers use PS4).
The PS4’s death date is a bit of a stretch, but it’s a big step nonetheless. And Sony plans to do it in 2025: in three years, the company will stop releasing games for the PS4 – all efforts will be focused on the PS5. Sony has also been very optimistic about PS5 sales, with the company believing the PS5 will outsell the PS4 in 2024. For comparison, about 19.3 million PlayStation 5s have been sold to date against 117.2 million PlayStation 4s.

Even the Steam Deck is more expensive. Ayn is preparing a portable game console Loki, which in the basic version will cost only $ 300

It looks like Steam Deck will soon have a real direct competitor at least.
At the moment, all Windows portable consoles cannot compete with the brainchild of Valve due to the many times higher price. At least, if we talk about the recommended prices. But here Ayn Loki will be completely different.
The company that released the Odin model with Android at one time intends to release its first console with Windows. What’s more, Ayn says it will be the most affordable device ever made.
In this case, this is true, because the price of the basic version will be only $ 300. Steam Deck, recall, starts at $400. Unfortunately, in this case, Loki will clearly not be able to compete with the Valve console in terms of performance, since the novelty will be based on the Intel Alder Lake processor. The company does not name the model yet, but, firstly, there is still not a single CPU in this line, the graphics core of which could compete with the GPU in Steam Deck, and secondly, at a price of $ 300 per console, which one will obviously be used there -the underlying Intel CPU. But, for example, for fans of some old or very undemanding games, this will still be a good option.
And here it is worth mentioning another important point. For $ 300, the Loki Mini model will be sold. It will probably be smaller than the others, but there are no details yet. At the same time, there will be Loki and Loki Max models, already based on the Ryzen 6000 APU. And these will be full-fledged competitors for Steam Deck. Firstly, they will have similar or even greater performance, and secondly, they will cost from 500 to 800 dollars, depending on the configuration. In the base, the buyer will receive a drive with a capacity of 64 GB, and for $ 800 a Max version with 512 GB will be offered. d
