Some of Apple’s latest laptops have been found to have slower drives than their predecessors upon release. Fresh tests have shown that the new MacBook Pros based on the M2 Pro and M2 Max SoCs are somewhat the same, but not completely.

As you can see, the write speed of the SSD in the new MacBook Pro is higher than the previous model based on the M1 Pro, but the read speed is lower, although the difference is already smaller here. In general, of course, in both cases, SSDs are very fast, and the difference is unlikely to be very noticeable in real tasks, but it does exist.

There is also a huge difference from both the Intel-based MacBook Pro and the modern, but more affordable 13-inch SoC M2 MacBook Pro. Thus, Apple additionally shares the younger MacBook Pro with older models, but the younger one is cheaper.

The latest “Product Change Notice” states that on February 6, Intel started the process of phasing out Rocket Lake CPU production. However, as always in such cases, this does not mean that such processors will abruptly completely disappear from the market. The last batch of such CPUs will be shipped only on February 23, 2024.

Rocket Lake-S processors were introduced in March 2021. They received quite noticeable changes relative to the 10th generation Core, switching to a new architecture for the desktop segment, but at the same time they retained the old 14 nm process technology, thus becoming a transitional link.

Intel Processor processors are just starting to hit the market in PCs and laptops, and today we can see one of the first tests of the CPU Processor N100 at the heart of the Morefine M9 mini PC.

Recall that the N100 has four small cores with a frequency of 3.6 GHz and a TDP of 6 watts. In this mini-PC, the processor is cooled by active CO.

The authors of the ETA Prime channel, unfortunately, did not conduct any large tests and did not compare the new product with other CPUs. So for now we can note a little.

For example, in Geekbench, the processor scores 960 and 2658 points in single-threaded and multi-threaded modes, respectively. Pentium N5105, for comparison, scores 587 and 2078 points, that is, the difference is quite significant.

In 3DMark Wild Life, the novelty scores 2929 points, in Night Raid the result is 4776 points. The authors even tested the mini-PC in games. For example, in Skyrim at minimum settings and 720p resolution, you can get up to 60 fps, and Half-Life 2 in Full HD shows twice as much at maximum settings. Even GTA V at 720p at the lowest settings is quite playable at around 30 fps.

The Processor N100 even allows you to run PSP GameCube and PlayStation 2 emulators.

Of course, such a CPU is not focused on some very resource-intensive applications, but it will still be interesting to look at a comparison of such a novelty and, for example, the old Intel Core i3.

Today, thematic resources began to publish reviews of laptops with GeForce RTX 4090 and RTX 4080 graphics cards, so now we can assess what mobile gaming will be like in the next couple of years.

In the case of laptops, reviews are usually not as voluminous as for desktop graphics cards, so information will have to be taken from various sources. Let’s start with Computerbase, which didn’t test new games in 4K, using WQHD resolution instead. In addition, in this case, there are only tests of the RTX 4090.

In this configuration, the mobile RTX 4090 is identical to the desktop RTX 3090, while the desktop RTX 4070 Ti, which is a relative of the mobile RTX 4090, is only 5% faster. The gaming capabilities of the RTX 4070 Ti and RTX 3090/3090 Ti are well known to us, so we can safely say that top laptops are now capable of handling 4K games without any reservations at maximum graphics settings.

As for the comparison with the mobile RTX 3080 Ti that topped the lineup last generation, it’s better to check out the TechSpot review, which shows that in 4K the new card is on average 58% faster than the old one! This is about the same increase as when moving from RTX 3090 Ti to RTX 4090.

If we talk about the mobile RTX 4080, then it is faster than the mobile RTX 3080 Ti by 25-30% depending on the resolution.

Thus, both new Nvidia mobile graphics cards provide an impressive increase relative to the best mobile solution of the last generation, and the RTX 4090 takes mobile gaming to a new level, because just a few months ago, the RTX 3090, which is now equaled by the mobile RTX 4090, was one of the most powerful graphics cards on the market.

At the same time, as always, it is worth remembering that mobile video cards, unlike desktop ones, can differ greatly due to power limits. The tests above involved cards with maximum limits, but the same RTX 4090, instead of its 175 W, can have a limit of only 80 W, in which case the performance will be completely different.
