Apple is expected to release a new compact iPad model in the fall – the sixth generation iPad mini. Now, photos of an aluminum billet have appeared on the web, presumably showing the main design elements of the iPad mini 6.

The blank demonstrates what earlier rumors had suggested – a larger screen with narrower bezels, no proprietary home button, a thinner body and flatter edges.

Compared to the renders published in June by informant Jon Prosser, there is only one change – the volume buttons have moved to the opposite side of the power button.

Apparently, iPad mini‌ 6 will be made in the style of the updated iPad Air and iPad Pro – Apple will abandon the Home button in favor of increasing the screen size while maintaining the device’s dimensions. Apple is unlikely to integrate Face ID into the iPad mini‌ 6, but the Touch ID fingerprint reader will likely be integrated into the power button, just like the iPad Air. The iPad mini‌ 6 is also expected to have a faster processor and possibly USB Type-C.

Apple Announces Big Update for iPhone and iPad – Support for SharePlay, New Modes for iPhone 13, and More

Published

on

Apple has announced a major software update for the iPhone and iPad – iOS 15.1 and iPadOS 15.1. They bring a long list of innovations, improvements and fixes.

Firstly, in iOS 15.1 and iPadOS 15.1, the SharePlay function, announced back in the summer, appeared. Apple describes it as “a completely new way to share content from Apple TV, Music and other supported apps from the App Store with everyone on a FaceTime call.”

In fact, it is a co-viewing or listening function where anyone on a call can pause, start, and rewind content using shared controls, and the volume of a movie or song is automatically reduced when the other party starts talking. With Apple TV, you can watch shared video on the big screen while continuing to FaceTime on iPad.

Plus, with Screen Sharing, everyone on a FaceTime call can view photos, explore the web, and help each other.

A few more general innovations for iOS 15.1 and iPadOS 15.1 – in the application “Translation” and during translation in the entire system, Mandarin Chinese (Taiwan) is now supported, new automation switches have been added to the “Home” application based on the current readings of humidity, air quality and level light from HomeKit-enabled sensors, and Siri Shortcuts use new predefined actions to overlay text on images and GIFs.

The rest of the new features are for iOS 15.1. So, iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max support for recording video ProRes, as well as automatic switching between cameras when taking macro photos or videos. The Wallet app now supports COVID-19 vaccination cards.
