The Real Android Threat: HarmonyOS Already Installed on 470M Devices, 14 Distributions Released
According to the Shanghai Stock Exchange, the number of devices running various versions of the HarmonyOS operating system has already exceeded 470 million units.
After three years of full-scale operation, the HarmonyOS operating system has become more stable, and the ecosystem has grown significantly. Currently, at least 8 companies have released 14 industry distributions based on open source HarmonyOS.
Initially, it was believed that the goal of Huawei was to create an alternative to Android, but in the end it turned out that HarmonyOS had much bigger ambitions. The operating system is aimed not only at mobile phones, but also at a wide variety of devices.
After announcing Huawei HarmonyOS 1.0, Huawei head of consumer business Yu Chengdong said that the operating system was originally developed for IoT devices, but due to US sanctions, Huawei has decided to use the OS for smartphones as well. With the release of the second version of the operating system, the list of devices has been significantly expanded. In the third version, the functionality of the OS has been significantly improved.

Transcription of audio messages in Telegram has become available to all users

A new version of the Telegram messenger has appeared for the iOS and Android operating systems. Among the innovations are recommendations of similar channels: when joining a channel, the user will see a list of similar public channels; they are selected automatically by the application. In addition, you can now repost the stories of friends and channels, while the story can be supplemented with your own text, audio track or video commentary, and you can also select the circle of users who will be able to see the repost. The developers note that in order to protect privacy, you can only repost stories that are visible to everyone.
In the new version of Telegram 10.3, decryption of voice and video messages has become available for all users. Let us remind you that since last year this opportunity has become available to owners of a Premium subscription. This feature allows you to quickly read the content of an audio message and even translate it into another language. However, users without a subscription can decrypt only 2 messages per week, while in the Premium version their number is unlimited. The developers note that this feature will appear in various regions gradually.
Users also have the opportunity to add video messages on top of stories with their comments or simply an eloquent facial expression. Such video messages can be edited: changed size, moved to any point on the screen, and also selected the start and end point. New features have also appeared for Premium subscribers: including the ability to choose unique color combinations with logos for the profile to further emphasize the individuality of the page, as well as set individual wallpapers for individual chats for both yourself and the interlocutor (“free” users can use different wallpapers for chats only at home).

The newest Red Magic 9 Pro+, also based on Snapdragon 8 Gen3, took first place. Second and third places went to Vivo X100 on MediaTek Dimensity 9300 m iQOO 12 on Snapdragon 8 Gen3.
Then there are iQOO 12 Pro, Vivo X100 Pro, Xiaomi 14 Pro and Xiaomi 14, OnePlus 11S, OnePlus Ace 2 Pro and Vivo X90 Pro+.

WhatsApp now has private chats with a secret access code

The team of the popular WhatsApp messenger announced the launch of a useful addition to the private chats function. Closed chats have been available since 2023, and now secret codes have been added to them.
As the developers note, thanks to secret codes, private chats have received another level of protection in case someone gains access to your phone or you use the device with someone else.
The secret code is a unique password. It’s different from the one you use to unlock your phone and gives private chats extra security.
Users can also hide the “Private Chats” folder from the general list: it will only be visible after entering the secret code in the search bar. If you do not want to hide conversations, you can leave them in the general chat list. To move a new chat to the closed category, simply press and hold on it. You no longer need to open chat settings.
The distribution of the innovation has already begun and will gradually become available to WhatsApp users around the world.
