The Perseverance rover will make a second attempt, in the hope that the soil will not “crumble”

The US Aeronautics and Space Administration NASA has released details of the second attempt at ground sampling by the Perseverance rover.

On August 5, Perseverance made its first fence attempt and it failed. On August 11, NASA scientists published a material describing the possible reason for the failure. The researchers agreed that the reason was not Perseverance malfunctions, but in the rock itself – it turned out to be more free-flowing, did not form a core, and simply spilled out back to the ground, leaving the tube empty.

Scientists spent almost two weeks investigating and drawing up a new plan. In the end, it was decided that the rover would move to a new location called the Citadel, where it would make a second attempt to collect a rock sample. This time, to ensure that the sample is indeed collected, the engineers will wait until they get images of the tube to make sure it is not empty before the tube is processed and placed in the bowels of the apparatus.

Louise Jandura, chief sampling engineer on the NASA team, described the first attempt on August 5:

We were just delighted that the equipment worked from start to finish without any failures. And then there was a surprise: “There is no sample? What do you mean without a sample?”

After discovering that the sample tube was empty, the mission staff used the rover’s cameras to analyze the remnants of the hole drilled by the rover. A pile of dust formed around the hole, and spilled material could be seen at the bottom.

“It just wasn’t our kind of rock,” Jennifer Throsper, project leader at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL), wrote in a blog post on Thursday:

Despite the fact that we have successfully collected over 100 images in various test rocks on Earth, our test set did not turn out to be a stone that behaved in this way. ”

Scientists will now make a second attempt at a more promising location with a breed suitable for fence. In total, Perseverance should collect 35 samples of Martian rocks, which are supposed to be delivered to Earth approximately in the 2030s.

With such boulders Perseverance will deal in the Citadel

Recall that Perseverance landed on Mars on February 18, 2021 and recently celebrated its first six months on the Red Planet. The rover is intended for exploration in the Jezero crater area. The rover has rather ambitious tasks in collecting samples, looking for signs of past microbial life, assessing viability and preparing for the landing of humans on Mars.

Samsung Electronics revealed a lot today at SDC 21. In addition to launching a cloud gaming service and opening the Tizen platform to third-party vendors, Samsung also talked about new features that will soon be available on its smart TVs.

One of the areas Samsung is focusing on is video calling. The new video communication solution was implemented in collaboration with Google. As Samsung promises, it will bring higher quality video calls to TVs thanks to AI-powered autofocus and zoom capabilities.

The company is making it easier for developers to release camera services and apps on Samsung TVs, and is working to improve compatibility with external webcams.

For example, the Samsung Health solution for Samsung TVs can connect to a webcam and analyze exercise performance in real time while exercising.

Consideration is being given to addressing compatibility issues to provide support for more game controllers. More than 10 game controllers are currently officially supported.

Samsung TVs will get new capabilities based on artificial intelligence. These include automatic subtitles that do not overlap with the text in the video, as well as new sign language capabilities, including a 3D character that can translate TV menus into sign language.

Modular action camera with powerful magnets and OLED screen. Introduced ultra-compact DJI Action 2 with 4K 120fps video recording

All are expected from DJI for the premiere of the Mavic 3 drones, but this will happen a little later, and today the company introduced the Action 2 action camera. And, I must say, the new product is completely different from its predecessor. Moreover, the very concept of an action camera has changed.

For example, in some cases it does not need any mounts at all, because there are powerful magnets in the case. Installing a camera on the body of a car is generally easier than ever. However, Action 2 is also compatible with standard mounts for action cameras.

The second important point is that the camera has become modular. On the bottom panel of the case there is a contact pad for connecting and communicating with additional modules. Such a module can be a battery or, for example, a built-in battery with a front display (it will make it easy to shoot yourself, since, unlike Osmo Action, there is no front screen in Action 2).

The camera’s own display is characterized by a diagonal of 1.76 inches and a resolution of 446 x 424 pixels. It uses an OLED panel, protected from the outside by durable Gorilla Glass. Of course, the screen is touch-sensitive. Its own rechargeable battery with a capacity of 580 mAh provides the camera with 70 minutes of autonomy. With an additional display module, autonomy increases to 160 minutes, with a battery module (the battery capacity of both modules is 1300 mAh) – up to 180 minutes.

The DJI Action 2 features a 1 / 1.7-inch optical format CMOS sensor that supports 4K 120fps or Full HD 204fps video recording. The lens viewing angle is 155 °. There is no optical stabilization system, but there is an electronic RockSteady 2.0, which works in conjunction with the HorizonSteady horizon leveling system. DJI will optionally offer a macro lens for the camera – it, like some other modules, will go on sale later.

The camera is equipped with a Wi-FI 802.11ac adapter and supports microSD memory cards up to 256 GB. Protection from water has remained the same: the DJI Action 2 itself can dive to a depth of 10 meters, and with an underwater box – to a depth of 60 meters. Dimensions of new items are 39 x 39 x 22.3 mm, weight – 56 grams.

DJI Action 2 is already available to order from the manufacturer’s website. The Power Combo kit, which includes a camera with an additional battery, costs $ 400. A Dual-Screen Combo kit, in which a camera with a display module, is priced at $ 520. But the Dual-Screen Combo will go on sale in early November, and, for example, the mic model will be delayed until December.

Here’s what can happen when using an iPhone 13 with a cheap, non-genuine cable. The phone began to beep and get very hot

Published

on

Gizchina reports that one iPhone 13 user used a new smartphone with a very cheap 30 cents charging cable and nearly burned his phone.

The user confirms that when charging with this cable, the smartphone began to beep and became very hot. It’s good that the owner of the smartphone immediately drew attention to this. Otherwise, it could lead, at best, to a cable failure or to a smartphone fire. This often happens when using cheap charging adapters and cables.

Apple warns that it is dangerous to use non-MFi-rated, non-MFi-certified accessories with its products, with the blame resting on the user.

On e-commerce platforms, you can find a huge range of chargers with a Lightning connector starting at less than a dollar. However, there are many accessories among them without MFi certification. This certification ensures that Apple has approved the use of the cable or charger with its devices.

Usually, the iPhone warns users when using a faulty accessory, in which case it is better not to risk it so as not to lose an expensive device.
