The performance of MeluXina, the first Luxembourg supercomputer, will make it one of the top 50 supercomputers in the world

The first Luxembourg-based supercomputer MeluXina was officially handed over to operation this week. The performance of this supercomputer exceeds 10 PFLOPS, which will make it one of the 50 most productive supercomputers in the world. This is the eighth system of this level in the European Union.

The source does not provide technical specifications, limiting itself to the statement that “MeluXina’s innovative modular architecture can serve a wide range of complex computing workloads.” It is assumed that the supercomputer will be used for resource-intensive tasks of modeling, big data analysis and artificial intelligence. The system runs on clean energy. Its creation was jointly funded by the Luxembourg government and the European High Performance Computing Joint Undertaking (EuroHPC).

In a press release on the commissioning of the supercomputer, it is said that unlike most high-performance computers, which were built as pure research projects, MeluXina stands out for its business orientation. Supercomputer resources are available to startups, small and medium enterprises, and large international companies. At both Luxembourg and European levels, MeluXina will serve all types of user groups.
