During the announcement, Intel claimed that a pair of 32-core Ice Lake-SPs could bypass a pair of 64-core AMD CPUs. However, then there was a trick in comparison: Intel showed tests only with support for AVX-512.

But the latest data from the SiSoftware Sandra benchmark hints that things will be completely different in normal applications. The Xeon Platinum 8352S and 8352Y were lit up in the database – completely identical technically 32-core Ice Lake-SP processors, differing only in that the former supports use in four-processor configurations, and the latter is limited to dual-processor configurations.

Both CPUs contain 32 cores with Hyper-Threading support, 40 MB of L2 cache, 48 MB of L3 cache and operate at frequencies of 2.2-3.4 GHz with a TDP of 205 W.

As you can see, Intel’s 32-core new product only slightly outperforms last year’s 32-core Epyc 7542 in the arithmetic test, and a couple of new products are slightly faster than the 64-core Epyc 7742. In multimedia, Intel’s new product looks more interesting.

However, the problem is that the comparison is with the already outgoing generation of AMD processors. In the near future, the company will release the Milan-generation Epyc CPU, which will move to the Zen 3 architecture, which provides very impressive performance gains.
