Sales of tablets and Chromebooks, which have grown at a tremendous pace since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, have begun to slow down.
According to IDC, in the first quarter, tablet shipments sank 3.9% to 38.4 million units. Analysts are talking about the return of the market to normal seasonality, that is, the impact of the pandemic on this market has greatly weakened.
As for Chromebooks, the market just collapsed. During the quarter, 5.1 million PCs were sold, which is 61.9% less than a year earlier! However, this is due to the fact that it was Chromebooks that showed explosive growth last year.
The tablet market is dominated by Apple with a 31.5% share and a 4.6% YoY decline in sales. Also in the top five are Samsung, Amazon, Lenovo and Huawei. Of these companies, only Samsung and Amazon were able to ramp up shipments.
As for Chromebooks, the top five are: Lenovo, Dell, Acer, HP, and Samsung. Of course, they all reported a drop in sales, but Dell suffered the least.

An insider, known on the Weibo social network under the nickname Digital Chat Station, revealed details about the promising Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra tablet. According to the source, the device will be built on an overclocked version of the current Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 flagship SoC – Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 2. Considering the performance of the current Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, the Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra may not only be faster than all Android tablets, but also faster than many Apple tablets.
But the tablet will not only be powerful – it will also receive a huge capacity battery – 10,880 mAh.
The insider does not say when the Galaxy Tab S9 line will be released, but according to rumors, its premiere will take place in August – this month Samsung traditionally presents its new products at the big Unpacked event.
