Valve showed us what the world of Half-Life might look like through a VR headset in Half-Life: Alyx. Now, a beta version of Half-Life 2: VR Mod has been released on Steam.
With the mod, which is compatible with Valve Index, HTC Vive and Oculus Rift, you can play Half-Life 2 from start to finish in virtual reality. This is a beta version, so the mod is not without bugs. However, it is unlikely that the owners of virtual reality headsets will refuse the opportunity to be in this world again and get new experiences.
Half-Life 2 has several long scenes with vehicles that can make you feel uncomfortable in VR. The developers of the mod have been working hard to reduce the negative effects of driving in virtual reality.
We have done our best to improve visibility during these rides to minimize motion sickness. Nevertheless, such rides still require strong endurance. For players who are having trouble with this, we intend to offer the ability to switch to 2D in these scenes.
The mod offers both smooth and hard turns, customizable controls, full left-handed support, and a laser sight for weapons. And to turn on the flashlight, all you need to do is touch your head.
Previously, gamers were taken away for miners, but now it’s the other way around. XFX releases Radeon RX 6700 XL gaming graphics card
The first photos of a not-so-ordinary Radeon video card have appeared on the Web. We are talking about the mining version of the Radeon RX 6700 XL.
In this case, the XFX adapter is captured. The card is very large and has a very impressive cooling system.
Initially, the Radeon RX 6700 XL, which is equipped with 10 GB of memory, did not go on sale. Instead, AMD partners have made such cards available only to miners. Later, Sapphire released a similar retail solution called the RX 6700, and now it looks like XFX wants to do the same, only under the name RX 6700 XL.
Technically it’s the same card. It has a GPU with 2304 stream processors versus 2560 p.p. for the RX 6700XT. In addition, in the younger version, the bus has been cut down to 160-bit.
Of course, the performance of such a card is lower than that of the RX 6700 XT, but higher than that of the RX 6650 XT. At the same time, in Europe for the RX 6700 XT they ask from 470 euros, but the RX 6700 will cost 430 euros.
The popularity of Windows 11 on Steam is growing. GeForce GTX 1060, GTX 1650 and RTX 2060 are the most popular graphics cards among users
The developers of the digital distribution service for computer games, Steam, published statistics on the use of hardware and software for September 2022, showing that the share of Windows continues to grow, while the share of macOS and Linux decreases.
The share of Microsoft Windows 11 increased by 1.06%. More and more users are moving from Windows 10 and Windows 7 to the new system, which may be due to the release of Windows 11 22H2. Overall, Windows accounts for 96.41% and OSX for 2.36%.
In terms of graphics cards, the GeForce GTX 1060, GTX 1650, and RTX 2060 are still the top three graphics cards with the most users, and their share has increased. The share of graphics cards for laptops RTX 3060 increased by 0.61%, this card closes the top five. And the fourth place was taken by the GeForce GTX 1050 Ti.
The share of Intel processors grew by 0.82% and amounted to 68.73%. The share of AMD decreased to 31.24%. It is worth noting that the latest generation of desktop processors from Intel and AMD will be available in large quantities in October.
Sony believes that PlayStation VR2 will be more popular than its predecessor: by March, the company will release 2 million headsets
According to Bloomberg, citing people familiar with Sony’s plans, the Japanese company plans to produce 2 million PlayStation VR2 headsets by March next year.
Mass production of the new VR headset began in September, with Sony facing no supply chain restrictions. After the release of the device early next year, production numbers are likely to be adjusted based on sales dynamics.
According to Sony’s own forecast, the PlayStation VR2 headset will be more popular than the PlayStation VR generation, which took eight months to reach 1 million units sold. The Quest 2 is currently the most popular VR headset, with 2.8 million units sold in the first quarter, according to IDC.
Sony has not yet announced the official release price of the PS VR2. According to sources, Sony is currently planning to start selling the headset in early 2023. It is worth noting that PS VR2 can only be used with the PlayStation 5 game console.
A spokesman for Sony Interactive Entertainment declined to comment.
