Microcontroller sales are up sharply in 2021, driven by strong growth during the economic recovery, according to analyst firm IC Insights. The growth was 23%, and the market volume in terms of money reached a record high value of 19.6 billion dollars. For comparison: due to the pandemic in 2020, this market decreased by 2%.

Analysts at IC Insights predict that global microcontroller sales will increase by 10% in 2022 and set a new record of $21.5 billion. At the same time, the segment of automotive microcontrollers will be ahead of most others in terms of growth rate.

The median selling price (ASP) of microcontrollers rose 10% in 2021 to $0.64. This is the highest growth rate in the last 25 years. More specifically, microcontroller prices have been declining for two decades, although the decline has slowed in the last five years. Analysts specify that the increase in prices in 2021 was due to a shortage of microcontrollers, in particular, needed by the automotive industry.

According to IC Insights, growth will continue in the coming years. ASP is expected to have a CAGR of 3.5% between 2021 and 2026. Deliveries at the same time will grow by 3.0% per year. If the forecast comes true, 35.8 billion microcontrollers will be shipped in 2026 for a total of $27.2 billion.

It remains to add that 46% of sales of microcontrollers are accounted for by “ordinary” electronic devices, including smartphones, computers, peripherals, etc., a little more than 40% – by automotive electronics, and the remaining 14% – by bank cards, electronic travel cards, certificates, etc.

And now it became known that such games, unfortunately, will not support add-ons. DLC may someday be added, but at first you definitely shouldn’t expect them.

For example, Asura’s Wrath, Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2, Crash Commando, Enslaved: Odyssey to the West and a number of other games received various kinds of add-ons at one time, for some projects there were a lot of such DLCs. But within the framework of PS Plus, it will not be possible to try them out. The source also publishes a list of PS3 games, but we published them a week ago, when Sony itself did this.

As a reminder, today we also learned that some classic games will work even worse on the new consoles than on the original PlayStation.
