The first Snapdragon Wear 5100 watch has 2/16 GB of memory and two cameras with a resolution of 5 and 16 megapixels

Qualcomm’s top SoCs for smartwatches are Snapdragon Wear 4100 and Snapdragon Wear 4100+, but it is known that the new Snapdragon Wear 5100 (SW5100) model will be released soon. Now, sources say the Snapdragon Wear 5100 won’t deliver much of a performance improvement.

According to Winfuture, the current Snapdragon Wear 5100 that Qualcomm is testing has four Cortex-A53 cores like its predecessors, not Cortex-A73 cores. The source also states that the mobile platform is being tested with various configurations, including 1 or 2 GB of LPDDR4X RAM (with the Snapdragon 4100 using LPDDR3) and 8 or 16 GB of eMMC flash. There are also configurations with two cameras with a resolution of 16 and 5 megapixels.

The Snapdragon Wear 5100, just like the Snapdragon Wear 4100, may have a co-processor that uses significantly less power and performs tasks such as sleep tracking and heart rate monitoring.

The Snapdragon Wear 5100 will be produced by both Samsung and China’s SMIC, according to reports. Chinese smartwatch makers are expected to become key buyers of the new Qualcomm SoCs.

So far, there is no information on the timing of the appearance of the new platform on the market. It has been speculated that Qualcomm may want to delay the release of the SoC so that more manufacturers can purchase the Snapdragon Wear 4100 series, which powers only a handful of smartwatches.
