The first Huawei laptops are presented with support for Android applications

Huawei unveiled two new notebooks in China today – the MateBook 13s and 14s.

The main highlight is that these are the first Huawei laptops to support Android applications. For this, a proprietary solution Huawei Mobile Application Engine is used. As the manufacturer promises, users will be able to work with mobile applications on a laptop in the same way as on a smartphone.

MateBook 13s and 14s received touch screens with a diagonal of 13 and 14 inches, respectively, a resolution of 2520 x 1680 pixels, an image refresh rate of 90 Hz, weighing 1.32 and 1.43 kg, enclosed in metal cases, 60 Wh batteries, battery life work – up to 13 hours.

The laptops will go on sale from September 25 in the following variants:

  • Huawei MateBook 13s with Intel Core i5-11300H, 16 RAM and 512 GB SSD – $ 1,084
  • Huawei MateBook 13s with Intel Core i7-11370H, 16 RAM and 512 GB SSD – $ 1239
  • Huawei MateBook 14s with Intel Core i5-11300H, 16 RAM and 512 GB SSD – $ 1,084
  • Huawei MateBook 14s with Intel Core i7-11370H, 16 RAM and 512 GB SSD – $ 1239
  • Huawei MateBook 14s with Intel Core i7-11370H, 16 RAM and 1 TB SSD – $ 1394

Along with the MagicBook 16 Pro gaming laptops, Honor today unveiled the MagicBook V14 2021 business models.

There are three devices in total, their configurations and prices are as follows:

  • Intel Core i5-1132H, 16 GB RAM, 512 GB SSD – $ 960;
  • Intel Core i5-1132H, 16 GB, 512 GB SSD, GeForce MX450 – $ 1080;
  • Intel Core i7-11390H, 16GB, 512GB SSD, GeForce MX450 – $ 1240

The MagicBook V14 2021 features a 14.2-inch display with a 2520 x 1680 pixel resolution at 90Hz frame rate and 100% sRGB coverage. There is a fingerprint scanner built into the power key, an NFC adapter, a 5-megapixel webcam. The cooling subsystem is represented by two heat pipes and two fans. It is quite quiet – the noise level in normal operation is 22 dB.

MagicBook V14 2021 are made in metal cases with a thickness of 14.5 mm. Weight is 1.48 kg. Pre-orders for new items in China will begin to be accepted on September 26, and real sales will start on October 6.

Honor unveiled the new MagicBook 16 Pro gaming laptops in China today. The lineup is represented by two models that differ only in video cards: the base one uses the GeForce GTX 1650, and the top one received the GeForce RTX 3050.

Laptops are equipped with IPS screens with a diagonal of 16.1 inches with a frame rate of 144 Hz and full HD resolution. The screen covers 100% of the sRGB color space and covers 87.3% of the lid area. The amount of RAM is 16 GB, the amount of SSD is 512 GB.

The cooling system is represented by three heat pipes with a diameter of 2 mm and two fans. The thickness of the case of the MagicBook 16 Pro is 18.2 mm, the weight is 1.84 kg. In the configuration of laptops, there are also two microphones, a fingerprint scanner in the power key, support for fast charging with a power of 135 watts. Maximum autonomy – up to 8 hours. New items are running Windows 10, but an upgrade to Windows 11 is guaranteed.

The performance of mobile video cards is highly dependent on the power limits. We’ve talked about this on a number of occasions, but Razer’s new gaming laptops make us take a second look. In this case, it is very illustrative.

The fact is that the 2021 Blade 17 model is available with both the RTX 3070 and the RTX 3080. And the second is supposedly faster than the first. However, the fact is that the first is characterized by a 130 W TGP, while the second has this figure of 100 W. And although the second has more CUDA cores, this does not save it.

As tests show, in most cases it is slightly slower. The difference lies in the range of 2-11% in favor of the younger model. The difference is not critical, but the point is not in it, but in the fact that the majority of users, having considerably overpaid for the RTX 3080, will rightly expect significantly higher performance, and at best they will get the same. To make matters worse, Razer, unfortunately, does not list power limits for video cards on the site, although Nvidia requires this from manufacturers.
