The first extraterrestrial life may be discovered there. The Europa Clipper mission to the moon of Jupiter has passed an important stage of the critical review of the project

As you know, one of the goals of the Perseverance rover is to search for traces of extraterrestrial organisms. More precisely, traces of ancient microbial life on Mars. At the same time, it is still considered unlikely that even microbial life exists on the Red Planet at the moment, although in general it is possible.

But where scientists really hope to find samples of extraterrestrial life for the first time is on Europa, one of the moons of Jupiter. According to all available data, Europe hides a huge ocean under a thick crust of ice, and water in liquid form is the best place to search for life.

According to NASA, the Europa Clipper mission, in which the first spacecraft will be sent to Europe, has passed an important stage of a critical review of the project. During this process, scientists examined the detailed design of the spacecraft to make sure it was ready for completion.

A critical review of the project covered all scientific instruments – from cameras to antennas – and flight subsystems, including propulsion, avionics, and on-board computers. Selected engineering subsystems and instruments have passed their own design checks over the past year and a half. In early 2022, assembly, testing and launch operations will begin.

We have shown that our design system is reliable. Our plans to complete the development and integrate the individual parts are consistent with each other, and the system as a whole will function as intended to collect the scientific measurements needed to study the potential suitability of Europe.

The mission involves the launch of the device in 2024. He will arrive in Europe only in 2031.

You can turn off Recommendations in mobile Chrome

Google is preparing to introduce an innovation that will delight many users of the mobile version of the proprietary Chrome browser.

You can turn off

We are talking about the ability to remove the Discover ribbon (Recommendations) from the Chrome New Tab page. On mobile versions of the Google Chrome browser, the new tab page currently hosts a search bar, most viewed websites, and two content feeds. One of them is the traditional Google Discover channel (Google Recommendations), which shows a list of articles recommended for the user by Google algorithms.

Before and after

Soon, the browser should be able to remove this feed – using a special flag #feed-ablation, which will appear on the chrome://flags page. It’s already available in an early test build of Chrome Canary, and is expected to be released with the release of stable Chrome 103 next month.

Google has finally begun rolling out an update to Google TV that brings support for multiple profiles to smart TVs and set-top boxes.

Google TV finally has support for user profiles

Recall that Google TV is not an independent operating system and not renamed Android TV, but an additional shell for Android TV. It debuted on the Chromecast media player in October 2020. Since launch, Google TV users have been complaining about the lack of full support for multiple profiles on the device. The feature was announced in October last year and was scheduled to begin rolling out to devices by the end of the year. However, two months later, Google delayed the launch indefinitely.

Now Google has announced the start of rolling out support for multiple profiles on the same device with Google TV. The feature will not appear instantly for all users, but gradually over the next few weeks.

It will allow you to create a personalized space on one TV for several users with different Google accounts. Each of them can access personalized recommendations, quick access to their watch list, and so on.
