It’s not just Xiaomi that is gearing up to launch its flagship smartphones the Xiaomi 12 and Xiaomi 12 Pro at the end of the month. Redmi is also preparing for the presentation of the Redmi K50, which will take place at the beginning of the year. Verified Chinese insider Digital Chat Station provided information on the characteristics of the Redmi K50.

The source claims that the Redmi K50 series will include several models with the numbers L10, L11 and L11A. The smartphone will have a screen with a hole in the center top, as well as support for a high refresh rate. The lineup will include models that will be based on SoC Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, Dimensity 9000 and Dimensity 8000.

Digital Chat Station also added that the Redmi K50 series smartphones will be sold at an unusually high price, that is, the era of cheap Redmi flagships will end with the Redmi K40 series, which continues to sell well and is very popular.

Another thing is interesting: according to the source, at the end of the presentation, Redmi will make an unexpected announcement of another model after the phrase One More Thing, which Apple often uses to announce new products at the end of the main presentation.

The top-end Redmi K50 Game Enhanced Edition is expected to receive a 2K OLED display at 120Hz or 144Hz. It will have four cameras, including a 64MP Sony Exmor IMX686 sensor. A wide-angle sensor OV13B10 with a resolution of 13 megapixels and an 8-megapixel VTech OV08856 will also be installed. The fourth sensor will be a 2MP GC02M1 depth-of-field sensor from GalaxyCore. Perhaps there will be another version with a Samsung ISOCELL HM2 sensor with a resolution of 108 megapixels. The smartphone will receive a large battery, ultra-fast charging, JBL stereo speakers and other flagship features.

Digital Chat Station was the first to accurately report the specifications and release dates of the Redmi K30, K40, Xiaomi Mi 10 and Mi 11.

In April of this year, the US Federal Aviation Administration delayed the completion of an environmental review of a new SpaceX launch site in Texas for the fourth time in five months. The FAA is now scheduled to publish its review, called the Programmatic Environmental Assessment (PEA), on May 31, the day after tomorrow.

SpaceX may only begin orbital launches of its massive Starship rocket once the FAA’s evaluation is complete. Elon Musk said in February that Starship would definitely go into orbit this year.

Xiaomi is preparing a competitor to the Samsung Galaxy Z

Xiaomi is apparently working on a foldable smartphone that resembles the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3 in design. The corresponding patent was posted on the website of the China National Intellectual Property Administration (CNIPA). The patent application includes sketches of the device both open and closed. Judging by these images, when folded, the smartphone will be very compact.

The sketches also show a horizontal camera module (reminiscent of the Google Pixel 6 camera) with three holes for sensors. However, one of them may well be designed for LED flash. The speaker holes, the SIM card slot and the USB Type C connector are located on the bottom end, and the power button and volume control are visible on the right side. According to the sketches, it is not clear what the front camera of the new Xiaomi clamshell will be. Perhaps the company will decide to use camera technology under the display (Camera Under Panel, CUP), like Xiaomi MIX Fold.

Will PlayStation have fewer exclusives? Sony plans to release half of its PlayStation Studios games on PC and smartphones

Will PlayStation have fewer exclusives Sony plans to release half

Sony has outlined its immediate plans for the game for PC and mobile platforms.

Will PlayStation have fewer exclusives? Sony plans to release half of its PlayStation Studios games on PC and smartphones

CEO Jim Ryan said that Sony plans to have half of the games created by its internal studios in fiscal year 2025, including on PC and smartphones.

That is, only 50% of the games will remain exclusive, while the rest will be available to a much larger number of gamers. This is similar to Phil Spencer’s position on the Xbox.

From the chart, you can see that the share of PCs will still be higher than the share of smartphones, which should please gamers who prefer large single-player games. The share of Sony games on smartphones is now about 10%, and in three years it should double. In the case of the PC, there is no exact data, but the share of such projects will not grow so significantly.

Will PlayStation have fewer exclusives? Sony plans to release half of its PlayStation Studios games on PC and smartphones

Most likely, the big story games for the most part, as now, will be released only on the PlayStation, and will migrate to the PC years later. What kind of games will be released on PC and smartphones? Judging by Ryan’s statement, including game-services. It turns out that Sony is now working on 12 such projects at once. According to the head of PlayStation, if at least some of these projects become successful, it will greatly transform the company’s business structure.

Historically, PlayStation Studios has done an excellent job of building a vast portfolio of single-player games with rich storytelling and beautiful graphics, but we’ve certainly limited ourselves to a fairly narrow section of the gaming market.

By expanding into PCs and mobile devices, and, it must be said, into online services, we have the opportunity to move from a very narrow segment of the overall gaming software market to a presence almost everywhere.

For example, I would say that if we manage to make some of the 12 service games that we develop at PlayStation Studios… if only some of them are commercially successful, then the impact of this will completely transform our business structure over time.

Given the success of Sony games on PC, it’s no surprise that the share of such games will continue to grow. As for the mobile segment, it has long occupied more than half of the entire gaming industry in terms of money. By the way, we recall that the first of the PlayStation 5 exclusives may soon be released on the PC.
