Apple continues to face many challenges while developing its first car.

The development of the Apple Car is still going through a lot of problems, from software to staff turnover.

The difficulties of Project Titan have been spoken about more than once, but now there are new details. For example, as it turned out, Apple’s head of software Craig Federighi is very skeptical about the project.

It is with the software part of the project that Apple has problems. Recall that Apple Car, according to all data, is created as an unmanned vehicle, which means that software plays a key role in it. And so far, Apple’s test machines, which are used to test software, are not performing well. They work well on pre-designed routes, but they don’t perform as well in the real world of new tracks.

For example, earlier this year, one such car nearly hit a pedestrian. The software decided to only slightly correct the direction of the car, but the safety driver decided to apply the brakes. Later, Apple came to the conclusion that the car would have hit a person if the driver had not intervened.

Also, Project Titan continues to suffer from staff turnover. That year, its head Doug Field left the project, then the head of machine learning also left Apple due to the need to return to the office after the COVID-19 pandemic. The project is now overseen by Kevin Lynch, who previously led the creation of watchOS.

It also became known that the former chief designer of Apple, Jony Ive, who continues to work with the Cupertino giant to a certain extent, advised the Project Titan team “to take into account the oddities in the design of the car and not try to hide its sensors.”

The source says the current version of the prototype has four seats facing each other inside the car so passengers can easily communicate with each other. It is also said that the prototype has a curved roof, like the Volkswagen Beetle.

Alfa Romeo has become profitable and is set to break

In an interview with Autocar, CEO Jean-Philippe Imparato said Alfa Romeo was already profitable, adding that the future looked bright. The company’s CEO estimates that annual deliveries could reach 90,000 vehicles in 2023, with a significant increase by the middle of the decade.

Imparato predicts Alfa Romeo will break its sales record in 2025, which sounds like an ambitious target given the brand’s record of 223,643 units. It was recorded back in 1990, when the lineup was much more diverse than it is today. In 2024, the family will expand with the release of a small crossover, positioned below the Tonale. The B-segment crossover, sister to the Fiat 600 and Jeep Avenger, will be the first Alfa Romeo model to offer a purely electric powertrain.

Alfa Romeo has become profitable and is set to break its car delivery record, which has stood for more than 30 years.

Imparato noted that Alfa Romeo is not chasing volumes, but is prioritizing profit margins, which he hopes will reach at least 10%. He added that healthy cash flow will create new opportunities for additional vehicles. The CEO suggested that a revival of the Giulietta was possible in the long term. This compact hatchback was discontinued at the end of 2020.

The next-generation Giulia and Stelvio have already been confirmed to switch to an all-electric powertrain in the coming years, with larger US-focused models planned for the second half of the decade.
