The dark legacy of Windows 10: Windows 11 computers have many issues with around 100 Brother printers

Published

on

Printer manufacturer Brother has confirmed that its devices are experiencing problems when connecting via USB to computers running the Windows 11 operating system.

Brother noted that when connected to a computer using a USB cable, company devices may simply not be recognized, users may not be able to change their settings or connect more than one printer.

In addition, Brother also provided a list of scripts and tools that cause problems:

  • Device Configuration Tool
  • Paper size adjustment tool
  • Distributed Printing Tool
  • Custom ID Setting Tool
  • Wireless setup wizard
  • P-Touch Editor 5.4
  • Updating the software
  • Transfer manager
  • Template settings

The problem is being investigated for both inkjet and laser printers. A huge list of models is listed on the manufacturer’s website. As a temporary workaround, Brother advised customers to use “another type of connection, such as wired or wireless, if available.”

Interestingly, earlier this year Microsoft fixed a very similar issue where printers were having problems connecting via USB, however this was in Windows 10.

Apple today released the stable version of its new Mac operating system, macOS 12 Monterey, which has been tested since the summer following the announcement in June at WWDC 2021.

MacOS 12 Monterey has a lot of innovations in its arsenal. Also noteworthy is the Universal Control function. It allows you to easily switch between Mac and iPad using the same mouse and keyboard, without any additional setup. You can enter text using the keyboard on any device, drag and drop content between devices, draw on iPad with Apple Pencil, and then add artwork directly to apps on Mac, and more.

The Focus feature lets you filter notifications from apps and people based on what the user is currently doing. Focus settings set on a Mac are automatically applied to all of the user’s devices in the Apple ecosystem. In Focus mode, Messages and other supported applications such as Slack automatically display the corresponding status. And that’s not all of the innovations in macOS 12 Monterey.

MacOS 12 Monterey is available as a free software update on Apple-based Macs and Intel-based Macs:

  • iMac – Late 2015 and newer
  • Mac Pro – Late 2013 and newer
  • iMac Pro – 2017 and newer
  • Mac mini – Late 2014 and newer
  • MacBook Air – Early 2015 and newer
  • MacBook – Early 2016 and newer
  • MacBook Pro – Early 2015 and newer.

Note that SharePlay and Universal Control are not available at the time of release, to activate them Apple will release a separate macOS 12 Monterey update before the end of the fall.

Gigabyte has unveiled the Aorus Project Cielo concept modular PC. The name, as well as the lack of details, do not allow us to say so far that such a serial product will be released. But the opposite cannot be said either.

Project Cielo is another attempt at a modular desktop PC. So far, none of the attempts have been successful, which is understandable by the specifics of the market.

Be that as it may, in this case, we know that the upper block of this computer, which looks like a dehydrator, is a PC itself, on average there can be a battery, and the lower one is a speaker system. That being said, Gigabyte is also talking about built-in 5G antennas. That is, it is also a potentially conditionally portable PC.
