Apple has removed information from a previously published press release that said the iPhone 14 Plus would be released in Colombia on October 28th.

Prior to this, this press release attracted attention as the iPhone 14 has been banned in Colombia since its launch due to Apple’s ongoing litigation with Swedish telecommunications company Ericsson over 5G networks.

Carlos Olarte, Ericsson’s representative in Colombia, said of Apple’s plans to release the iPhone 14 Plus in the country, “I suspect this is a mistake.” He stressed that such actions would be a direct violation of the ban.

In July, a judge banned the import and sale of any Apple 5G devices after Ericsson filed a patent lawsuit against Apple in Colombia and many other countries. Ericsson wants Apple to pay to use its proprietary 5G technologies, even though the network has yet to roll out in the country. The asking price is $5 for an iPhone, but Apple refused to pay. So far, Colombia is the only country to ban Apple 5G devices as a precautionary measure pending a final verdict.

Apple does not give official comments on this matter.

Apple has been using flat surfaces and sharp edges for three years in a row, starting with the iPhone 12. Many manufacturers of Android smartphones have followed suit, but there are people who complain about this shape and claim that it is uncomfortable to hold the smartphone for a long time.

In addition, according to multiple sources, the iPhone 15 will also say goodbye to the Lightning interface and move to USB-C, although some believe that Lightning may remain on lower models. Even if all models get USB-C, only older models will have a fast connector.

Apple in trouble iPhone 14 production could fall by 16

According to analysts at the largest Swiss bank UBS, this year the production of the iPhone 14 may be reduced by an impressive 16 million units. This is facilitated by covid restrictions in China, as well as low demand for entry-level models – the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus.

Apple in trouble? iPhone 14 production could fall by 16 million this year

Initially, analysts believed that the total production of the iPhone 14 this year will be 92 million units, but now it has been reduced to 76 million, which is 20% less than the iPhone 13 was produced last year.

It is important to monitor how the increase in iPhone 14 Pro / Pro Max waiting time affects demand,” UBS analysts wrote. “The speed at which Apple and Hon Hai [Foxconn] can solve problems in Zhengzhou, is the key to sales in the fourth quarter of 2022 and the first quarter of 2023‘, they added.

The iPhone Pro production problems could put further pressure on Apple’s business, analysts say, as the more expensive iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max offset low demand for the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus. Ironically, Zhengzhou, where the Foxconn plant that makes the vast majority of the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max, has been hit hardest by the COVID-19 restrictions. Obviously, such a significant decline in the production of the most popular Apple phones can negatively affect the company’s financial report for the fourth quarter of this year and for the entire year as a whole.
