The camera failed the tests, so maybe the sound didn’t let us down? DxOMark once again rated Xiaomi 13 Ultra
DxOMark laboratory specialists have published the results of a new test of the Xiaomi 13 Ultra smartphone. Previously, despite positioning as a photo flagship, Xiaomi 13 Ultra was only in 14th place in the international DxOMark ranking for the quality of mobile shooting, losing not only to all the flagships of 2023, but also to Xiaomi Mi 11 Ultra. Now DxOMark has evaluated the sound quality of Xiaomi 13 Ultra.
However, here, too, things were far from rosy. Xiaomi Mi 11 Ultra scored 140 points and took only 17th place in the global ranking. It is overtaken by numerous competitors including the iPhone 14 Pro Max and Huawei P60 Pro, as well as older models including the Xiaomi Mi 10 Pro and Mi 10S.
During playback, the smartphone performed best in games, but the sound quality was also at a high level when listening to music or watching movies. Recording results were the best with the main camera and excellent with the note-taking app.
The sound was good and the dynamics were punchy and accurate, both with the built-in speakers in playback and recording. However, experts have found that the device is not suitable for recording with high sound pressure levels, such as concerts, and the audio zoom function is not very effective when focusing on one particular sound source.

Solving the overheating problem: iPhone 15 Pro Max, S23 Ultra and Pixel 7 Pro were “tortured” by rain, water and complete freezing in a block of ice

Apple’s newest top smartphone continues to be tested online in a variety of ways, testing the limits of patience and what is acceptable. This time, the thematic resource TechDroider, known for its tests, published a video where three competing flagship smartphones are subjected to “torture in freezing water.”
In the announcement for the video, TechDroider joked:
iPhone 15 Pro Max overheating? Here’s a quick solution.
In the video itself, the iPhone 15 Pro Max, Samsung S23 Ultra and Pixel 7 Pro are tested together for resistance to freezing water. All three devices received IP68 protection against water and dust, and TechDroider decided to find out how they would behave after 6 hours of freezing.
To begin with, the smartphones were tested in rain and shower, as a result, all survived and showed no signs of moisture getting inside. Then the smartphones were placed in a container of water. At this stage, the author discovered that the S Pen stylus continues to work correctly with the Galaxy S23 Ultra even under water. As a result, all smartphones issued a warning about water getting into the USB Type-C port, and the Pixel 7 Pro even notified the owner when the connector was dry and charging became safe.
The final freezing and defrosting led to minor problems. Thus, condensation appeared in the camera block of the iPhone 15 Pro Max and all three smartphones lost volume and correct operation of the speakers. After the smartphones were allowed to rest for 24 hours without drowning or freezing, they began to work again as before. However, the iPhone 15 Pro Max required a reboot to fully restore wired charging functionality.

Microsoft is preparing a lightweight version of Windows 12 for very cheap PCs and laptops

Microsoft is indeed working on a “web-centric” version of the next generation of the Windows operating system, commonly known as Windows 12. This was reported by the thematic resource WindowsLatest, citing several sources close to Microsoft and its industry partners.
The cloud or web-based version of Windows 12 is similar in operating principles to the already well-known ChromeOS operating system from Google, which is used mainly on school and student PCs and laptops that are characterized by accessibility.
As WindowsLatest notes, the cloud version of Windows 12 is not intended to replace the traditional proprietary OS on desktop computers and could be the “true” answer to Chrome OS. This is Microsoft’s attempt to create a more modern, modular and lightweight version of Windows for low-cost educational devices.
Microsoft is already building a development team for the next generation of Windows. This is confirmed by job listings appearing online. It also notes that the “next generation of Windows” will appear in 2024.
As WindowsLatest learned, the Microsoft Edge browser and a new artificial intelligence system will be the center of the first web version of Windows 12.
