The Swedish central bank has called for a ban on Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies using the Proof-of-Work (PoW) consensus algorithm due to their negative environmental impact. The regulator published a report titled “Cryptocurrencies and their impact on financial stability”, according to which the share of mining in the country has reached the energy consumption of 200,000 households.
The document cites representatives of the Environmental Protection Agency:
The Proof-of-Work method, which is used to confirm transactions and extract new cryptocurrencies, should be banned in favor of other, less energy-intensive methods.
The document also casts doubt on the need to accept Bythyon as a means of payment in Sweden.
In response, Christian Ander, founder of the Swedish bitcoin exchange BTCX, criticized the Riksbank report:
The fact that the Riksbank publishes this information is highly inappropriate. Energy consumption must be neutral, production must be regulated. The central bank has no right to tell people what they can and cannot do with their electricity.
Report of the news agency “Our World in Data” demonstrated while the global sports industry emits three times more emissions than the Bitcoin blockchain. The question arises why central banks continue to attack the use of PoW energy while remaining tolerant of the “useless” sports industry?
Dimensity 8000, 4500mAh, 100W, 54MP, 12GB RAM, 512GB Flash for $655. In China, sales of the top version of Honor 70 Pro started
Smartphones Honor 70 and Honor 70 Pro debuted in China at the very end of May, and sales started about a week later. Now in the Celestial Empire, sales of the top version of Honor 70 Pro, equipped with 12 GB of RAM and 512 GB of flash memory, have begun. They are asking for the equivalent of $655.
The Honor 70 Pro features a 6.78-inch OLED screen with a resolution of 2652 x 1200 pixels and a 4500mAh battery with 100W charging support. At the heart of the hardware platform is the SoC MediaTek Dimensity 8000 with performance roughly on par with the Snapdragon 888.
Honor 70 Pro received a 50-megapixel front camera and a main one with sensors with a resolution of 54 (this is a Sony IMX800 with an optical format of 1 / 1.49 inches), 50 and 8 megapixels. The latter provides a 3x optical zoom.
Virgin Orbit launched a seven-satellite rocket from California’s Mojave Aerospace Port on Saturday, marking the company’s first successful overnight mission. Virgin Orbit launched satellites into low Earth orbit using its Boeing 747 carrier aircraft called Cosmic Girl, which had a LauncherOne rocket attached to it.
The mission, named Straight Up after a song by Paula Abdul, involved the launch of seven NASA research satellites. As in previous missions, the launch of the rocket took place from a height of 10 km, which climbed Cosmic Girl. The carrier plane’s flight was originally scheduled to take place on Thursday, but Virgin Orbit postponed the mission after experts found LauncherOne’s propellant temperature was “slightly out of range.”
In total, Virgin Orbit has already carried out five launches, four of which were successful (only the first test was unsuccessful). Virgin Orbit is owned by British billionaire Richard Branson, but should not be confused with Virgin Galactic, the company’s separate commercial spaceflight division.
XMAGE camera, periscope module and 7x optical zoom. Huawei Mate 50 Pro in black and white poses for quality renders
The premiere of the Huawei Mate 50 series smartphones is expected on September 12 – not soon, but renders have already begun to be published on the Web, which are based on leaks and images of cases. These pictures show perhaps the highest quality concept renders of the Huawei Mate 50 Pro. Moreover, the smartphone poses in two colors at once – black and white.
The main thing here, of course, is the camera. The block contains the name of the new corporate brand of the camera – XMAGE. It will combine all the old and new technologies of Huawei in the field of mobile photography. XMAGE is a synthesis of two words, Extreme and Image, and under the brand, Huawei will focus on three pillars: photography experience, culture, and innovation. That is, it will be more than just a set of sensors and lenses.
But we are more interested in technology. Judging by the inscriptions in the camera block, the smartphone will have lenses with a focal length of 13 to 90 mm, that is, we can talk about a 7x zoom. The main module will most likely have a wide-angle lens. And 90 mm is the focal length of the lens of the periscope module. Of course, there will be optical stabilization.
Huawei novelties are also credited with SoC Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 and Kirin 9000s, 8 GB of RAM and 128-256 GB of flash memory. These models will be the first to run HarmonyOS 3.0 out of the box.
