Tesla recalls record 1.1 million vehicles due to dangerous power windows

Tesla is launching a massive recall campaign targeting nearly 1.1 million electric vehicles in the US. The reason for this is potentially dangerous power windows: the function of reverse movement simply stops working for electric vehicles, so if an obstacle is detected between the frame and the glass, the mechanism will not automatically lower the glass, which can lead to injury.

The power window issue affected the 2017-2022 Tesla Model 3, the 2020-2021 Model Y, and the 2021-2022 Model S and Model X. However, this will not be a recall in the classical sense, since owners of electric cars with potentially dangerous power windows will not even have to visit the dealership. All work will consist of updating the software, which will be installed “over the air” using the over-the-air (OTA) function.

Tesla itself claims that they have not received a single complaint from customers about this problem, and the company is not aware of a single accident, the cause of which would be the failure of the reverse motion function. At the same time, the US National Highway Traffic Safety Agency insists that power windows that do not meet safety requirements can pose a real threat to the health of the driver and passengers.

Dealers in China began receiving the Chery Arrizo 5 WS sedan. The Chinese resource Autohome calls it “a car that everyone can afford.” And the point here, of course, is the price: you can buy a car for 69,900 yuan – that’s about 9.5 thousand dollars. Interestingly, there is no talk of any manual gearbox – the engine works in conjunction with a variator.

Under the hood of the Chery Arrizo 5 WS is a simple 1.5-liter naturally aspirated engine with a power of 1109 hp. It is clear that the dynamics are sluggish, but the consumption is relatively low – 6.6 l/100 km based on measurements using the WLTC method.

The car received a regular dashboard with traditional speedometer and tachometer scales and a small on-board computer screen between them.
