Tesla gives Powerwall batteries to people who order more expensive solar roofs

Last month, it was reported that Tesla is sharply raising prices for solar roofs due to a new ‘roof complexity’ parameter. Even with the lowest difficulty ratio, the average price went up, causing outrage from customers.

Tesla has applied price increases to solar roof projects with contracts already signed. Some of these homeowners have already spent money preparing for the installation. In some cases, these homeowners face tens of thousands of dollars in additional costs.

Tesla has not previously offered these customers anything other than terminating contracts if they don’t want to go along with a price increase. A few weeks later, Electrek learned that Tesla had begun offering these customers home-made Powerwall batteries as a gift.

Several Tesla solar roof buyers have confirmed that Tesla has contacted them to offer a free Powerwall. These clients had previously received a letter stating that the final price of their solar roofs would be increased by between $ 9,000 and $ 12,000.

Thanks for your continued support. We would like to offer you one Powerwall at no additional cost when you proceed with the Solar Roof installation.
